The Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Denver invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor position, with a focus in socio-legal studies, in our teaching professorial track (non-tenure track), beginning September 1, 2022. The successful candidate will teach eight courses over three quarters (two-three per quarter). Courses will be concentrated in the socio-legal curricula, which includes electives as well as core major courses, First-Year seminars, and Advanced Seminars (writing-intensive courses for juniors and seniors). Appointments at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor will be made initially as a three-year contract. Subsequent renewal and/or promotion to Associate rank is contingent on formal performance review. The Teaching Professorial Series provides opportunity for promotion and advancement within the series (3-year, 5-year, and 7-year contracts).
- Teach eight courses a year, engage in the advising of majors, and complete other service to the university.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellence in undergraduate teaching, including experience in teaching socio-legal courses.
- Excellent communication skills for classroom teaching and student mentoring.
- Ability to work well with, listen to, and effectively communicate verbally with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other members of the DU and larger community.
- Ph.D. in sociology, justice policy, or related field.
- Prior experience teaching as instructor on record.
- Three years of teaching experience in higher education as well as research and professional development in the area of law and society.
- Research, publications, and professional development in the area of law and society.
- The ideal candidate demonstrates experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is UC.
The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $57,000.
