The University of Denver is situated in the Denver metro area, a vibrant and diverse urban center in the Rocky Mountain region that is home to 2.8 million people. Position Summary

We seek a candidate for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning Fall 2022, in the clinical psychology area. Our Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program is APA-accredited and was ranked #50 of clinical Ph.D. programs nationally by U.S. News and World Report in 2020. Our clinical program ascribes to a clinical science model and belongs to the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science. We have a specialty emphasis in children, adolescents, and families. Candidates should be license eligible in the state of Colorado. 

For this position, we seek candidates with a program of research focused on inequities that impact externalizing psychopathology. We define the externalizing domain broadly to include behaviors and disorders, such as (but not limited to) aggression, temperamental factors, emotion dysregulation, oppositionality, ADHD, conduct problems, and substance use/abuse. We have special interest in scholars who address inequities and externalizing psychopathology with expertise in (1) early childhood, (2) adolescence, and/or (3) family processes and factors (e.g., parenting practices, dyadic and family relationships, adversity and stressful life events). We also define inequities broadly to encompass a full range of systems and issues that impact underserved populations in mental health. We see possibilities for a scholar to connect with our current research at many methodological levels, including (but not limited to) basic science, prevention, screening and assessment, intervention, and/or implementation. The candidate should clearly describe how their research connects to and complements the current research interests of our clinical faculty and other departmental faculty.

Successful applicants will have an outstanding record of research achievement and a strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education. Candidates should also be committed to working with diverse populations in research, teaching, and/or service and should be committed to advancing the principles and practice of inclusive excellence.

Essential Functions

  • All candidates should have a strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education and demonstrated aptitude for excellence in teaching, including classroom teaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision.
  • Maintain an ongoing research program.
  • Teach 4 course equivalents per year (on the quarter system) as assigned, divided among graduate and undergraduate courses; including University and department core requirements, elective and specialized courses, and clinical supervision.
  • Supervise graduate student research projects, theses, and dissertations.
  • Participate in department and university citizenship and service activities commensurate with a full-time faculty member.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Research skills commensurate with area of study.
  • Strong potential for high-quality teaching and mentoring.
  • Strong potential for high-quality clinical supervision in evidence-based approaches.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Expertise in inclusive pedagogical practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Psychology (ABD considered for an Assistant Professor hire with completion date before September 1, 2022). If dissertation is not complete, individual will hold the title of Instructor.
  • Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Colorado.
  • Research skills appropriate for area of study.
  • Strong potential for high-quality teaching and mentoring.
  • Strong potential for high-quality clinical supervision in evidence-based approaches.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Psychology or related field.
  • Evidence of high-quality teaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision.
  • Experience working with diverse student and community populations.

The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
