The Director of Academic Assessment reports to the Director of the Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL) and provides leadership, direction, and advice for building and sustaining a robust culture of continuous improvement that supports processes for curricular renewal, academic innovation, and organizational transformation. This person is a leader for ensuring the institution will satisfy accreditation guidelines and ensuring cyclical practices of continuous improvement. This position interfaces with internal and external constituents which include: (1) office of the Provost, offices of deans, faculty, administrators, academic departments, co-curricular units, and the OTL; (2) allied institutions; and (3) accreditation bodies.
This is a full-time (12 month) staff position with full benefits. The position will report to the Director of the Office of Teaching and Learning who reports directly to the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs. The Director of Academic Assessment will collaborate with the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and academic departments across the university to lead assessment efforts that support the universitys mission and strategic imperatives.

Assessment of Campus-wide Learning Goals:
- Provides direction, leadership, and advice to offices of deans, faculty, academic administrators, and others involved in the design, development, assessment, and evaluation of academic programs to meet accreditation guidelines.
- Supports the intentional improvement of student learning through data-informed processes that examine learning outcomes within a diverse student population context.
- Collaborates with relevant units to develop culturally-responsive assessment practices associated with student learning outcomes.
- Supports units and departments as they plan and develop assessment practices and map alignment to campus-wide graduate and undergraduate student learning outcomes.
- Presents assessment results to stakeholders by disseminating understandable and actionable assessments and data via regular presentations and reports to departments, units and decision-making groups including the preparation of an annual report of assessment efforts.
- Facilitates the coordination of college, co-curricular, and program level assessment activities to ensure alignment with institutional and accreditation expectations with respect to student learning.
- Contribute to Common Curriculum (General Education) revitalization efforts and develop a process for assessment of General Education outcomes.
- Participate in Undergraduate and Graduate Council meetings.
- Reviews and provides feedback for program assessment reports on a cyclical basis.
- Collaborates with academic administrators to meet assessment, evaluation, and program review goals.
- Works collaboratively with leadership to facilitate appropriate responses and continuous improvement to findings from the prioritized assessments.
- Serves on and consults with committees related to the advancement of robust culture of assessment and evaluation at DU.
Consultative Services & Faculty Development Initiatives
- Provides comprehensive consultations to support curricular renewal, academic innovation, and alignment for undergraduate and graduate programs at all stages of assessment (design, implement, analyze, and report) to facilitate curricular, programmatic, and institutional improvement.
- Provide assistance in designing measurable outcomes and conducting data analysis to enhance unit and department capacity to conduct effective and meaningful outcomes assessment.
- Provide outcomes assessment consultations and alignment mapping workshops for all programs and units involved in assessment efforts.
- Provides guidance to units or departments as they develop student learning outcomes specific to their programs.
- Provides guidance to units or departments for developing culturally-responsive, inclusive assessment practices associated with student learning outcomes specific to their programs.
- Collaborate with units and departments as they develop new programs so that inclusive assessment is purposely infused in proposals.
- Collaborates with OTL colleagues to design resources and deliver professional development programming informed by best practice in assessment including: inclusive assessment, classroom level assessment, curricular mapping, and others, through learning communities, workshops, institutes, and trainings.
Internal Assessment & Office Collaborations
- Assist in updates and maintenance of OTL IRB.
- Assist OTL team in building a data informed decision-making processes and contribute to OTL annual report.
- Support OTL staff as they engage in programmatic assessment.
- Participate as a collaborative team member to implement OTL events and programs.
- Actively initiate and participate across areas of expertise among OTL staff.
- Assist in determining appropriate web presence for assessment work.
- Contribute to OTL blogs and podcasts as aligned with the role.
- Serve on or lead committees and groups as assigned.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
National Trends and Best Practice
- Stay abreast of trends in academic assessment, evaluation, inclusive assessment, and accreditation, seek out professional development, and actively participate in relevant professional organizations.
- Contribute to national dialogue and scholarship by participating in national conferences and engaging in research necessary to share DU’s achievements with broader scholarly community.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated experience managing and leading academic assessment activities at the institutional, departmental, and/or program levels.
- Extensive knowledge of best practices in research methodologies, assessment and evaluation theory and practice, and survey design, methodology, analysis, interpretation, data visualization, and the publication process.
- Possess advanced to expert interpersonal skills and ability to develop cross-campus relationships to promote effective and inclusive collaboration that is mindful of the population(s) being served and involves them in the process of assessment.
- Able to explain (in writing and verbally) assessment processes and outcomes to non-specialists, as well as prepare reports for various audiences.
- Able to manage multiple complex tasks without direct supervision.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to maintain collaborative and confidential relationships.
- Possess advanced knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and as an integrated part of assessment.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated success with project management.
- PhD or equivalent terminal degree.
- At least 3 years of experience in higher education.
- Experience as a member of a leadership team.
- Higher Learning Commission (HLC) regional accreditation experience.
- Experience in best practices in higher education academic assessment and evaluation methodologies grounded in antiracist and social justice principles.
- Experience in accreditation requirements for higher education.
- Experience in advanced quantitative data collection and analysis skills including statistical software.
- Experience in advanced qualitative data collection and analysis techniques including focus groups, in-depth interviews, survey design, and qualitative data software (e.g., Atlas TI, NVivo)
- Experience in data management and data-sharing best practice.
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Evenings and weekends may occasionally be required.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 13.
The salary range for this position is $84,000 -$94,000.
