The Office of the Registrar, an administrative service center for the University of Denver community, takes an active role in assisting students and faculty with registration and advising by providing the tools needed to review academic progress, create class schedules and successfully register for classes. Specialized services include, but are not limited to: Register for classes, prompt transcript distribution, degree evaluation and certification, enrollment and degree verification, classroom scheduling, and withdrawal processing. We provide pertinent information regarding academic policy, federal regulations, and procedures as related to the procurement, maintenance and release of educational records of our current and former students.

Position Summary

The Student Systems Analyst, supports the mission of the Registrars Office. The Administrative Systems Specialist is responsible for the functional administration of the Banner Student Module and other software applications including set up, maintenance, term controls, registration controls, course scheduling, Banner catalog, and general student of the Banner Student Module for the University. This position is responsible for setting up and monitors application processes. The incumbent must be able to identify processing errors, develop and implement solutions, make recommendations for new features. This position ensures that Banner validation tables, rules forms, and other key processes are accurate, updated, and tested. This position creates test plans, analyzes, researches, and documents functionality of the systems, and works closely with University Technology Services, Office of the Bursar, Financial Aid, Admissions, Institutional Research, and with other constituents. This position serves as a reliable source for comprehensive and authoritative information about the Banner Student Module and third-party software systems.

This position has availability to work from home, exact schedule to be determined with supervisor. 

Essential Functions

In addition to following the University of Denver's policies and procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • This position is responsible for enrollment and degree compliance reporting for the University and will interpret academic, state, and federal policies and procedures as it pertains to the Banner Student Module; and by using an enhanced and cultivated sense of logic to analyze, diagnosis and correct data other systems will produce data from the SIS, ensures accuracy of data, and submit data for reporting to external constituents including National Student Clearinghouse and NSLDS. The position will also create compliance-related reports for NCAA and Veterans Administration.
  • The Administrative Systems develops, creates, and delivers custom reports to constituents across campus, including the Provost, deans, and departments. The person in this position must be able to analyze, interpret requests to ensure that methodology and that data from various sources are delivered timely and accurately.
  • The Student Systems Analyst serves on committees as needed to represent the Registrars Office regarding technology issues and projects. The individual in this position is also responsible for developing documentation related to the position. The Student Systems Analyst reports to the Associate Registrar of Student Information Systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Provides mission critical compliance reporting and reports from the Banner Student module and other databases for the Registrars office, other departmental areas of the University and outside users by:

  • Reporting Banner, Microsoft Access, Excel, SQL, ODS, EDW, and other standard tools to produce quality reports from live data and warehouse files sorting and selecting on information related to enrollment, student credit hours, and degrees awarded.
  • Responsible for complying with federal enrollment reporting regulations through NSC or other institutionally identified methods.
  • This position is the university point person and liaison with Financial aid, Registrar, and external agencies regarding compliance. 

Provides reliable, effective and efficient system administration by:

  • Processes grades and producing or supporting production and distribution of grade reports.
  • Maintains the academic history module of Banner Student, which includes such functions as rolling grades, updating GPAs, producing deans lists, and other related functions.
  • Analyzes e and evaluates user information needs.
  • Servings as technical transfer agent to provide distributed reporting access.
  • Performs term-specific set up and other regular Banner maintenance processes to Banner forms and tables; recommends improvements to existing processes.
  • Bi-weekly, multi-department meetings of Registrar, financial services, financial aid, and technology services and maintain a running calendar of events significant to those areas.
  • Documents processes within the Registrars Office to provide and promote consistency and efficient workflow in collaboration with the Associate Registrar.
  • Uses proper design, implementation, and maintenance strategies for the Banner Student module.
  • Designs, develops, and implements programs as needed in collaboration with the Associate Registrar(s).
  • Analyzes the changes and upgrades to the Student module and assisting in all phases of implementation.
  • Provide user support to students, staff, and faculty by providing basic and advanced troubleshooting within the student information system.
  • Runs various programs as needed.
  • Works within current resource boundaries to develop innovative and practical solutions to problems.

Back up security administration of Banner Student module by:

  • Assists in developing guidelines for user access.
  • Back up for approving access request for Student system to Computer Systems Coordinator in their absence.
  • Works closely with Banner Resource Coordinator and Database Administrators to provide access.

Provides technical assistance for Registrars Office by:

  • Prepares training manuals, documentation for processes and procedures.
  • Researches problems related to data in Banner and developing solutions.
  • Trains staff in the use of hardware and software.
  • Coordinates projects related to system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Serves as technical advisor to other offices and departments for student data as needed.
  • Participates on various workgroups and committees.


  • Experience working with diverse populations. 
  • Demonstrated analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues from offices such as Institutional Research and University Technology Services.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in computer science or closely related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience in systems analysis, design, or programming to include experience working with student information system such as Banner, PeopleSoft, or Ellucian College.
  • Experience providing customer service in a professional office environment. 
  • Experience using data reporting tools such as Cognos, SQL, Microsoft Access or Related.
  • Experience querying and analyzing data.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience developing and implementing training and/or workshops.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree.
  • 5 years student information system related experience in Banner.
  • Experience working in higher education, preferably in a student services type of role.
  • 5 years extensive Computer Skills. Microsoft Office Suite, including Access.
  • Experience with Compliance reporting (National Student Clearing House, NSLDS).
  • Knowledge and experience with software and reporting tools such as: Banner Workflow, ODS, Cognos.
  • 3 years fulltime direct experience working in a Registrars Office and working with daily systems operations.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This position has availability to work from home, exact schedule to be determined with supervisor.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 10.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000.
