The University of Denver's Interdisciplinary Research Institute for the Study of (In)Equality (IRISE: is seeking an Associate Director to join an interdisciplinary team of scholars and practitioners. As part of the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), IRISE is designed to provide opportunities and support for faculty and students to engage in the development of cutting edge interdisciplinary research on issues of inequality, social justice, and inclusivity through community engaged projects.

Position Summary

The Associate Director of IRISE will work alongside the Director of IRISE in the envisioning and implementation of strategic activities to increase capacity for research and creative works promoting equality and equity in historically excluded communities on issues of inequality, social justice, and inclusivity, and manage the IRISE team. This is a full time, benefitted position.

Essential Functions

Advance IRISEs mission through:

  • Operations: Work with the Director of IRISE to coordinate the management, development, implementation and growth of IRISE activities, including the distribution of IRISE resources for research/creative works, programming, and community engagement. Will provide a yearly report to assess and amplify impact of IRISEs supported work.
  • Public Relations/Communication: Update, coordinate, and grow all public facing IRISE media, including the website, podcast, social media, and newsletter. Assist the IRISE Director with public relations efforts to showcase IRISEs supported projects on campus and off-campus.
  • Campus Liaison: Serve as a liaison and support to Director of IRISE in developing reciprocal and mutually beneficial community partnerships as well as facilitate and foster collaboration among and across DU entities to meet IRISEs mission.
  • Community Liaison: Build capacity for partnerships with community entities (e.g. by attending community meetings) to support and facilitate connections to IRISE projects being undertaken by postdoctoral fellows, affiliated faculty, and students.
  • Strategic Planning & Program Sustainability: Contribute to strategic planning, goal setting, assessment and innovations of programs and initiatives across the institute. Submit grants to local and national foundations, in order to build sustainability of our programs; develop and manage budgets for each grant. Make contributions to program reports, marketing and design work, communications/PR, outreach, etc. Present at local and national conferences.
    Administration of IRISE staff
  • Management: Coordinate IRISE staff. Support the hiring and professional development of staff (IRISE Postdoctoral Fellows) and manage student employees (both graduate and undergraduate - including work study students, graduate assistants, and interns), and volunteers.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Education, Arts & Humanities or Social Sciences, or similar field.
  • 3 years experience working in areas of diversity, equity, inclusion and or community engagement in higher education or similar fields.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, or justice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or terminal degree in Education, Arts & Humanities or Social Sciences, or similar field.
  • 3 years of administrative experience and experience with MS Teams, Drupal, and other technology and social media platforms.
  • 5 years experience working in areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and or community engagement in higher education.
  • Multilingual.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 10.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
