Position Summary

The University of Denver is pleased to announce a search for the Rice Family Professor of the Practice of International and Public Affairs at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies. The position offers an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced policy practitioner to contribute to the Korbel Schools academic programs and to enhance its impact and visibility locally, nationally, and internationally.

We seek candidates with a distinguished record of service in the public, private or non-profit sectors; demonstrable expertise in international affairs or public policy; and a strong interest in teaching and mentoring students. Priority areas of desirable experience include, but are not limited to, economic policy and policy-making, environmental sustainability, security (broadly construed), human rights and social justice, democratic governance, and interconnections among all of these. We would want the candidate to use their experiences, knowledge, and connections to teach and mentor students and help link Korbel faculty and students with relevant policy communities.

The position will begin on September 1, 2022. The appointment will be for a 1-3-year term.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree.
  • 10 or more years of experience as a policy practitioner in the United States or internationally, in governments at any level, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, or the private sector.
  • Willingness to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels and provide mentoring for students related to the candidates policy expertise.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion through their teaching and service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree or higher.
  • More than 15 years of experience as a senior policy practitioner in the United States or internationally, in governments at any level, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, or the private sector.
  • Successful teaching experience.
  • Track record of publication and other communication for public audiences.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $100,000-$150,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
