About the Opportunity

The Prospect Development Analyst partners with the Advancement community to assess the full spectrum of available data in order to provide a framework for strategic, actionable fundraising plans. As part of the Department of Business Intelligence and Analytics, the Analyst provides focus for portfolio and pipeline management best practices through prospect identification, data analysis, portfolio optimization and related services in support of effective fundraising programs and activities.

The Prospect Development Analyst provides information, knowledge, coordination, and tools that support Advancement in achieving its fundraising goals. Utilizing electronic resources and various reference materials, this position collaborates with other members of the University to create donor profiles, prospecting travel lists, travel briefs, and other written material for internal and external clients.  The analyst’s research informs prospect strategy and helps development officers move prospective donors through stages of the fundraising cycle.

In addition to prospect research, the position provides reliable and timely qualitative and quantitative data and trend analysis that supports the strategic and tactical planning and operational effectiveness of key fundraising programs, including annual, major, principal and planned giving. The Analyst studies internal and external data and utilizes data mining and predictive modeling software to help discover, analyze, classify, and strategically manage prospects capable of making philanthropic contributions to the University.

Primary Responsibilities

University Citizenship: Serve as an active and collaborative partner to all central and unit-based advancement functions, the Chancellor’s Office, and other campus colleagues, to foster strategic, effective, and collaborative fundraising practices. Model “One DU” thinking.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current trends in philanthropy and higher education as well as advanced analytical and research skills.
  • Proven research and analytical techniques, emphasizing the ability to gather, evaluate and synthesize complex and large sets of data from various sources and present information in a clear and cohesive manner.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Ability to present information in formal and informal settings and impart understanding of complex ideas to others.
  • Displays and demonstrates overall knowledge of prospect development, including prospect identification, research and management, as well as data analysis, querying and reporting.
  • Must be able to manage time well, particularly while managing competing priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education or work experience (Veterans with an equivalent combination of military certification/education and experience may substitute these qualifications for the degree qualification.).
  • 2 years of related experience research/database experience with success in understanding internal and external clients' needs and ability to translate needs into viable resources for clientele.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or coursework in research methods, journalism, analytics, and/or business intelligence.
  • Experience and working knowledge in Excel and Access.
  • Experience working in higher education.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment
  • Unexpected interruptions often occur, and stress level is moderate to high
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs with assistance

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., some nights and weekends, as required

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 9.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $50,000-$60,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
