The Executive Director of Strategy and Communication area includes administrative functions and operations for the Office of Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. The area consists of central SAIE staff, and it manages SAIE content and communication. In addition, the Executive Director of Strategy and Communication area ensures implementation, monitoring, and assessment of the divisional strategic plan and alignment among the 20+ departments that operate under the plan.
The Executive Director of Strategy and Communication reports directly to, and works in close partnership with, the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs (Vice Chancellor). This position serves a vital role in developing long-term strategic objectives for the Division and supporting the efficient and effective operations of the Vice Chancellor’s Office. The executive director will advise the Vice Chancellor on policy, procedural, and operational issues. The executive director plans, coordinates, and executes strategic internal and external communications. Additionally, the executive director serves as a liaison between divisional and other senior administrators, DU departments, and external constituents. The position directs strategy & communication, including internal and external messaging.
- Direct strategy and communication—including internal and external messaging—for the division of Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence
- Identify, analyze, monitor and, as needed, respond to issues that affect organizational culture and effectiveness
- Oversee divisional strategic planning—including process development, implementation, and ongoing assessment
- Assist the Vice Chancellor with organizing the agenda, priorities, and subsequent implementation of action items for the SAIE Leadership Team
(SALT), including meetings, retreats, and work sessions
- Supervise the SAIE Executive Assistant and provide functional oversight of administrative operations
- In conjunction with the AVC for Business, Operations, and Division Resources, supervise the director of Assessment & Planning
- In partnership with the AVC for Student Engagement & 4D Experience and the Senior Content Specialist, develop and disseminate communication
aimed at engaging students (undergraduate and graduate/professional) and amplifying 4D initiatives, programs, and opportunities
- Oversee SAIE administrative operations, including budget and staffing
- Serve as divisional liaison to key campus partners, particularly Advancement, Facilities Management and Planning, and Marketing and Communications, and Mountain Campus/Recreation
- In consultation with Vice Chancellor and Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT) colleagues, recommend and develop strategies and operational
plans to execute high-priority projects and strategic goals
- Conduct research, source data, and map processes to advance and implement key divisional priorities
- Coordinate activities, events, projects, and schedules between the Offices of the Chancellor, the Provost, and the Vice Chancellor (SAIE)
- Support SAIE capital construction, renovation, and real estate projects
- As needed, serve on, convene, and chair divisional and University committees, working groups, and task forces to advance divisional priorities
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Effective communicator within the division and on its behalf
- Excellent written and oral communication, editorial skills for marketing and press materials, as well as background developing planning documents, proposals, and research documents
- Proven skills with thinking creatively and strategically to address complex problems
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Proficient with standard office productivity software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Master’s degree in (higher) education, policy, business, or a related field
- Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education
- Experience at a senior administrative level/post in higher education
- Master’s degree, PhD, or EdD in higher education administration, business administration, or a related field
- Ten (10) plus years of progressively responsible experience in higher education
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with some nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 15.
The salary range for this position is $108,000-$120,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
