About the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

About the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (https://science.du.edu/chemistry) offers undergraduate degrees in chemistry, biochemistry and environmental chemistry and graduate degrees with specialization in analytical, biophysical, environmental, and organic chemistry and biochemistry.

About the Aron Lab

The Aron Lab is located in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Denver. The Aron Lab utilizes multi-omics methods including cutting-edge mass spectrometry-based metabolomics, sequencing, genome mining, and microbiology to interrogate microbe-microbe, and microbe-host interactions by delineating small molecules underlying these interactions. We are particularly interested in how metal-binding molecules mediate these interactions. The Aron lab is a highly interdisciplinary, collaborative, and inclusive environment.

Position Summary

The Aron lab is seeking to hire a new postdoctoral fellow to work on elucidating novel microbial metal-binding small molecules from human microbiota. Candidates interested in gaining expertise in untargeted and computational mass spectrometry should apply. Candidates are solicited with experience in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, natural products, and/or analytical chemistry. The available position is fully funded through an NIH grant; we will also encourage and support postdoctoral funding applications and will help you build a portfolio that matches your career goals.

Essential Functions

  • Experience with microbiology (microbial culturing, molecular biology, bioinformatics, etc.) is required.
  • Candidate must perform independent research and interpret research results.
  • Capable and willing to work with, train, and mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers.
  • Responsible for a set of lab duties designed to facilitate research.
  • Assisting with paper and grant writing work.
  • Fostering an inclusive laboratory environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Perform experiments.
  • Publish research.
  • Present research at conferences.
  • Mentor junior students.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable in microbiology, microbial culturing, natural products and related areas.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • PhD degree in microbiology, molecular biology, chemical biology, natural products, or related areas.
  • Laboratory research experience.

Working Environment

  1. Open interdisciplinary mass spectrometry lab setting.
  2. Standard office environment.
  3. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  4. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
  2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule

The University’s administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Work schedule may vary.

Salary Grade Number:

The salary grade for the position is GE8.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $61,000 - $70,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
