Position Summary

Part-time Research Assistants will support the data processing and analysis phase of a research project examining teacher psychophysiology during laboratory tasks. The primary responsibility of the research assistants will be to prepare and process psychophysiology data from several indices: electrodermal activity, heart rate and variability, and respiratory sinus arrythmia. Research assistants may have the opportunity to contribute to peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. The DU Investigator for this project is Michelle Rozenman, Ph.D., an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology; our PI collaborator on this project is Dr. Kamilah Legette, Ph.D., an Assistant Professor at Rutgers University.

Drs. Rozenman (DU Investigator) and Legette (Rutgers University) are seeking 1- 2 research assistants to engage in research related to teacher preparation and intervention to promote positive youth outcomes (e.g., mental health, academic well-being). Research assistants will work in the lab 10 hours per week, spending 9 hours processing physio data and 1 hour meeting with Dr. Rozenman regarding progress and problem solving data-related issues. All training for physio data management and processing is provided during the initial weeks of employment. The research assistants will work directly with physio data and will work closely with the DU Investigator, and therefore must have excellent organizational, detail-oriented, and communication and interpersonal skills. This position requires an in-person, flexible schedule and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Opportunities will be available to inform future research studies as well as contribute to publications. The position is part-time at 10 hours per week. It is required that the student who accepts the position be willing to work at 10 hours per week for the entire academic year (through mid-June 2026).

Essential Functions 

The primary responsibilities for the Research Assistants are:

  • Learn psychophysiology data management and processing methods
  • Implement data management, preparation, and processing methods with participant files with detail-oriented approach to tracking file completion and issues/errors that arise
  • Manage data within participant file and, ultimately, across files as files are combined for data analysis
  • Participate in a weekly team research meeting with the other research assistant and Dr. Rozenman to trouble-shoot errors/issues and ensure file processing occurs accurately and efficiently

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and/or other data management systems
  • Strong detail-orientation and ability to follow multi-step instructions and clearly document issues/errors in data
  • Ability to define problems, propose solutions, and implement them after consulting with supervisor
  • Following training period, ability to work independently and bring questions to weekly meeting

Required Qualifications

  • DU student who can make a commitment to the project at 10 hours per week for the entirety of this academic year (through mid-June 2026)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and via email

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with data management using formal software (e.g., Excel, SPSS)
  • Prior research experience

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate
  • Research assistant must be able to work independently processing data (primarily alone) following training period

Hourly Range

The hourly range for this position is $20.00-$25.00.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information-but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
