Position Summary

Provide coverage at the front desk helping to keep our school safe. Provide health care to students who require basic first aid, administer medication, and tasks as delegated by a school R.N. and as requested by a health care provider and parent.

Essential Functions

Front Desk Role

  • Provide coverage at the front desk helping to keep our school safe.
  • Screen guests who buzz for entry to ensure we only let in approved visitors.
  • Answer the phone, take messages, and forward calls as needed.
  • Communicating with teachers about absences and early dismissals.
  • Sort school lunches each day for classroom pickups.
  • Inform admin when you are stepping away from the front desk to foster seamless coverage.
  • Possible other duties / duty coverage as assigned.

Health Clerk Role

  • Provide health care to students who require basic first aid, administer medication, and tasks as delegated by a school R.N. and as requested by a health care provider and parent.
  • Evaluate ill or injured students, notify parents as needed, provide basic first aid, and distribute daily medications
  • Provide care in emergencies, call parents or emergency personnel when necessary and Contact 911 in emergencies
  • Provide daily and emergency health care: inhaler treatments, insulin injections, and Epi-pen injections.
  • Provide comprehensive care to students with diabetes according to their health care plan
  • Keep reliable daily health office visits, medications administered and health concerns in the health and medication logbook.
  • Help the office maintain student health files.
  • Complete accident and head injury reports and communicate about them as necessary
  • Provide staff with yearly and as-needed updated health concerns list, communicate regularly with the school nurse, parents, and school personnel regarding student health-related concerns
  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications for self and staff
  • Attend yearly training/reviews including diabetes review, medication administration, Diastat/seizure training, and Epi-pen training
  • Maintain immunization records per state immunization requirements, send out immunization warning and exclusion letters as needed, contact parents as needed, monitor immunizations in process, and use the state immunization database for state compliance
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned including cleaning the health station, maintaining equipment, ordering supplies, organizing medications and trainings for chaperones on field trips, and attending field trips for children with medical concerns as assigned and delegated by the school RN or administration

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Criminal background check required for hire
  • Must be a self-starter and confident in emergency situations
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are required within 30 days of entering the position
  • Conscientiousness and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in healthcare, working with school-age children, or a combination thereof

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.
  • May occasionally need to lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Evenings and weekends as required.

Salary Grade Number

The salary grade for the position is 5.

Hourly Range

The hourly range for the position is $20.00-$23.00.
