Position Summary

The Department invites applications for a non-tenure track full-time Teaching Assistant Professor position for the academic year 2020-2021 beginning September 1, 2020. The individual hired in this position will be responsible for teaching introductory and higher level undergraduate courses, and possibly graduate courses, in the areas of mechanical and materials engineering. Duties include six courses per year on a quarter system plus service.

The appointment is initially a one-year contract (unless the candidate has significant teaching experience), renewable up to an additional two years pending satisfactory performance. A second three-year contract may be awarded following a formal performance review.

Faculty members are expected to participate in faculty meetings and engage in service activities. Working effectively and professionally with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and/or community members is an integral part of the job responsibility. This position is not required to perform research.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines is required by time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience teaching undergraduate courses.

Salary Range
Salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
