Position Summary

The Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science (RSECS) at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels in the department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME).  Leveraging our strengths, RSECS is building strategic research clusters in areas related to 1. Biomedical devices and technologies, 2. Robotics and mechatronics, and 3. Artificial intelligence and data science.  We are looking for exceptional candidates who are committed to developing or enhancing a research portfolio and funded research program, carrying out innovative teaching, and engaging with a vibrant and diverse collaborative community.

While applications in all areas related to the strategic clusters will be considered, candidates with proven expertise in biomedical devices, biomaterials, tissue engineering, surgical robotics, additive manufacturing, nanoscale materials, computational fluid dynamics, wearable technology, rehabilitation, artificial intelligence, data science and computer vision are strongly encouraged.  Our school has research strengths in biomechanics, robotics, unmanned systems, advanced materials and structures, machine learning, controls and sensor systems with support from industry and federal sources. The MME department offers BS, MS and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering, MS and PhD degrees in Materials Science, and an MS in Bioengineering 

We are actively searching for candidates with established research programs or demonstrated potential related to the strategic research cluster areas.  Successful candidates must have an earned doctorate in mechanical or materials engineering or a related discipline, and an outstanding research and teaching record consistent with the rank.  Rank will be determined at time of hire commensurate with background and experience. Successful candidates will be tenured or tenure-track in the MME department with the possibility of joint appointments in other departments.  The position features competitive start-up packages.

Assistant Professor

  • Ph.D. in one of the disciplines listed under each position.

Associate Professor

  • Ph.D. in one of the disciplines listed under each position.
  • 6 years of increasing academic responsibility, but person's demonstrating unusually high academic promise may have gained equivalent experience in a shorter time.
  • Evidence of high-quality, high-impact research.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching.
  • Evidence of high-quality student mentoring.
  • Inclusive mindset.
  • Evidence of high-quality professional service.

Preferred Qualifications

Assistant Professor

  • Good communication skills and a teamwork mindset.
  • Interest in working on multi-disciplinary problems that contribute to the public good.
  • Post-doctoral experience.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with culturally responsive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations.

Associate Professor

  • Good communication skills and a teamwork mindset.
  • Interest in working on multi-disciplinary problems that contribute to the public good.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with culturally responsive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations.
  • Strong funding record.

Salary Range:
Salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
