The Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for a Visiting Professor position, open rank, in the School of Accountancy starting fall 2020. Currently, the research faculty of the School of Accountancy consists of three full professors, five associate professors, and four assistant professors. In addition, the department includes five full-time non-tenure track faculty. The vision of the School of Accountancy (250 students, first year through masters level) is to be the School of choice for superior students seeking to obtain the accounting knowledge, ethical grounding, and professional, interpersonal and intercultural skills necessary to succeed as leaders in their chosen endeavors.

The Daniels College of Business is one of the largest colleges within the university, with 1,600 undergraduate and 750 graduate students, offering a variety of majors and minors, including two bachelors degrees, four MBA degree programs, seven specialized masters degrees and a professional PhD. Daniels was founded in 1908 and has been continuously accredited by the AACSB International since 1923.

Position Summary

The University of Denver follows the quarter system, where classes meet for 10 weeks during the fall, winter and spring quarters. Faculty members are expected to participate in school and college faculty meetings and in assurance of learning. Working effectively and collegially with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and/or community members is an integral part of the job responsibility.

Essential Functions

Teaching Description: The normal teaching load for a tenure track faculty member is six (four credit hour) sections per year. The candidate will be expected to teach primarily undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of financial accounting.

Research Description: The individual who fills this position will demonstrate potential for conducting high-quality research in the area of financial accounting. The Assistant Professor will conduct primarily discipline-based research and focus on publishing in high tier target academic journals. The expectation of an Associate Professor is to have a continued record of high-quality publications over a period of at least six years in top target accounting journals and the ability and desire to mentor PhD students. The expectation of a Professor is to have a sustained record of high quality publications over a period of at least ten years and the ability and desire to mentor PhD students and junior research faculty members.

Service Description: The individual who fills this position will be expected to participate in the academic life of the School of Accountancy by participating in the Department and College faculty meetings and assurance of learning. Consistent with the mission of the School of Accountancy, significant involvement with students is expected of all faculty members. Beyond the academic life of the College, the Assistant Professor will typically engage in very limited service activities unless they tie specifically to ones research agenda. A Professor or Associate Professor is expected to provide significant service support and service to the academic, business and/or professional communities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Appropriate faculty qualifications (Scholarly Academic) under AACSB Standards is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives to effectively engage diverse populations and learning styles.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and collegiality.

Required Qualifications

Visiting Assistant Professor:

  • Doctorate in Accounting or closely-related field. 
  • Demonstrated potential for conducting high-quality accounting-based research.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellent teaching at undergraduate or graduate level.

Visiting Associate Professor:

  • Doctorate in Accounting or closely-related field.
  • Demonstrated record over six or more years of conducting high-quality discipline-based research.
  • Demonstrated record of excellent teaching at undergraduate or graduate level.

Visiting Professor:

  • Doctorate in Accounting or closely-related field.
  • Demonstrated record over ten or more years of conducting high-quality discipline-based research.
  • Demonstrated record of excellent teaching at graduate level, including supervision of dissertations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience or demonstrated ability to teach at the doctoral level.
  • CA, CPA, CMA or other professional certification in accounting or a related area of expertise.

Salary Range
Salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
