Position Summary

Reporting to the Course Reserves Supervisor, this part-time position is responsible for processing physical and electronic  reserves requests, book displays, and works scheduled shifts on call at the Service Desk assisting and coaching student employees with circulation and other library patron needs.  This position is responsible for the library's late evening hours and the work schedule is Thursday 11AM-4PM and Friday-Saturday, 2:15PM-10:15PM.  On occasion the schedule can be flexible as this position provides coverage for other staff as needed.  Actively participates in library committees and departmental meetings as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Verifies citations/materials requested, determines if materials are owned, submit requests for material not owned.
  • Maintains a spreadsheet for tracking Physical and Electronic Reserve requests and notify Faculty when process is complete.
  • Processes material for Book display on a monthly basis. Processes, tracks and notifies faculty regarding holds. Corresponds with
  • Faculty regarding requests. Compiles data for statistics. Submit requests for supplies for Physical  and Electronic Reserves. Completes other duties as assigned. (50%)
  • Works Thursday 11AM-4PM and Friday-Saturday, 2:15PM-10:15PM, and works a flexible schedule as needed. 
  • Closes the library on Friday and Saturday and shares responsibility for building safety, including communication and implementation of the library’s Disaster Plan.
  • Works on-call at the Service Desk assisting and coaching student employees on Service Desk activities utilizing the automated library system to check-out and check-in library material, collect and negotiate fines utilizing the credit card machine, answer user questions utilizing the library website and internal databases, and refer patrons to the appropriate department within the library or DU campus as needed.
  • Communicate access and borrowing polices to users and resolve patron issues. Forward unresolved concerns to Circulation Supervisor and Access Services Librarian as soon as possible and communicate Service Desk concerns and relevant information to library listservs and other stakeholders within the library. 
  • Completes other duties as assigned. (50%)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to work in a varied schedule with day, weekend and evening hours on a regular basis;
  • Must have good communication skills to be able to interact well with library users and other staff.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 1 year of customer service experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous library experience.
  • Experience in an Academic library 

Working Environment

  • The work environment is a busy public service desk in an academic library with many projects going on at one time.
  • The department is highly automated with attention paid to ergonomics and safety, using workstations equipped with easy access to needed resources and access to the Internet.
  • The unit is one of several working collaboratively and cooperatively in a team-based organization.

Physical Activities

  • Must have the ability to perform shelving activities, which require stooping, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 35 pounds.

Work Schedule
Thursday 11AM-4PM and Friday-Saturday, 2:15PM-10:15PM.

Hourly Rate:
The hourly rate for the position is $14.75 - $15.25.

Salary Range:
Salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
