Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL)
Located within the Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs within the Office of the Provost, the current mission of the Office of Teaching and Learning is to improve student learning across the University by fostering innovation and strengthening practices in teaching, course design, curriculum development, and assessment. The OTL staff supports faculty by advancing skills in course design, pedagogy, and academic assessment.

Office of Online Program Management (OPM)
The Office of Program Management provides services to enable the development, marketing and support of high quality online programs. Working across the schools and colleges, the OPM partners to meet the unique and diverse needs of the DU community. The service catalog includes market research, program marketing, admission and enrollment support, instructional and media design and development as well as targeted student support to ensure a unique and high touch online experience.

Information Technology Enterprise Application Services (IT/EAS)
Dedicated to quality, innovation, engagement, integrity and inclusion, Information Technology/Enterprise Application Services (IT/EAS) maintains the highest standards in providing a wide range of software solutions to units throughout the University. IT/EAS maintains software systems that support the University's core business as well as develops custom applications in partnership with DU departments to enhance services to our community. Our services range from consultation to implementation to continuous support of software solutions. Services include:

  • Software implementation, support, and development
  • Secure access to institutional information

IT/EAS ensures the current and future software applications are efficient and effective, maintains an appropriate balance between leading-edge activities and core business processes, and provides approprate information access and data security. IT/EAS is responsible for all aspects of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, Database Management, Data Warehouse administration, Information Analytics (BI), Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) systems such as Student Recruitment CRM; Student Success CRM; and Advancement CRM, Learning Management System (LMS), Document Management and Workflow.

Position Summary

The Business Analyst II reports to Manager, Business Analysts within the IT/Enterprise Application Services (IT/EAS) department in the Division of Information Technology (IT). The Business Analyst is physically located in the Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL) and works in close collaboration with the application developers in IT/EAS and the OTL and OPM staff.

The Business Analyst II is primarily responsible for the configuration, administration, and tier-3 support of multiple instructional technologies (e.g. Canvas LMS, Kaltura (Video Management), Respondus, E-Portfolio etc.), business process needs analysis, and operational data reporting and analysis. This position will interface with OTL, OPM, software vendors, and IT/EAS application developers to maintain and support applications and interfaces. This position will also be responsible for responding to production support issues, coordinating system enhancements and upgrades, writing ad-hoc reports, and managing cross-functional projects.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the functional subject matter expert and primary system administrator of instructional and online program management technologies, including but not limited to Learning Management System; Video Management System; Proctoring Technologies; E-Portfolio; and Assessment Software.
  • Perform configuration tasks to satisfy requests from end users for enhancements and fixes.
  • Analyze current processes and tools.
  • Make recommendations for development, improvement, or simplification.
  • Evaluate and implement third-party teaching and learning technologies and tools.
  • Work with IT/EAS Developers to build integrations between these systems, the LMS, and the enterprise ERP (Ellucian Banner).
  • Provide enterprise wide tier-2 and tier-3 application support.
  • Develop recommendations and coordinate issue resolution with IT/EAS and software vendors.
  • Troubleshoot, identify, and track software issues to ensure resolution.
  • Document and communicate problem resolutions.
  • Collaborate with OTL and IT/Campus Partnerships on developing University policies and processes for instructional technology applications.
  • Partner with OTL, OPM, and IT/Campus Partnerships to develop appropriate training materials to support end user training.
  • Research, configure, and schedule standardized reports within the applications.
  • Create ad-hoc reports, data queries, standard reports, and dashboards to support business needs.
  • Responsible for multiple projects or large complex projects with cross-functional teams.
  • In coordination with IT/Campus Partnerships, serve as a liaison between the OTL/OPM teams, LMS administrators, and IT.
  • Coordinate regularly scheduled meetings with IT/Campus Partnerships, IT/EAS, OTL, and OPM.
  • Partner with OTL, OPM, IT/Campus Partnerships, and IT/EAS development team to prioritize projects using IT prioritization rubric.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • General understanding of instructional technologies and practices.
  • Strong knowledge of learning management systems.
  • General understanding of technologies used for proctoring, assessment, video management, and e-portfolio.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL.
  • Ability to gather detailed business requirements and analyze business processes and data.
  • Ability to provide system support and training.
  • Solid foundational understanding of Microsoft Office products Excel and Word.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business correspondence, policies, and technical procedures.
  • Ability to utilize general mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts and analyze relevant data.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a business analyst position.
  • 3-5 years of experience as an application administrator or business analyst.
  • Experience with SQL.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer information systems, management information systems, or other related field.
  • 1 year of experience working with learning management systems and/or educational/instructional technologies.
  • Experience in a higher education working environment. 
  • Experience with reporting software.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
