Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Dean of the Sturm College of Law, the Assistant Dean of Business & Operations is responsible for all financial activities at Denver Law, including financial modeling, budget development, and financial controls. This position has an independent (dotted) reporting line to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Financial and Business Affairs on matters relating to budgetary development, planning, and management.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and manage the unit's operating budget, including budget modeling, forecasting, and deployment of funds (i.e., tuition dollars, operating dollars, current-use gift funds, endowed funds, and reserve funds) in a manner aligned with unit-level strategic priorities and University policies.
  • Co-develop, model, and manage a sophisticated enrollment management strategy that models projected tuition revenues.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and implement all financial functions (e.g., revenues and receivables, purchasing, accounts payable, and fiscal reporting) to ensure timely and accurate completion and compliance with applicable accounting principles, University and federal policies, and donor restrictions.
  • Manage performance of unit-level employees performing budgetary functions.
  • Review budgetary requests submitted by unit-level department heads and collaborate with the Dean with respect to the allocation of the law school's expense budget.
  • Collaborate with the Dean on the University's annual merit evaluation process.
  • Review and approve all contracts that encumber the University, including compliance with contracting policies.

  • Enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • 5 years of progressive work experience involving budget preparation and monitoring.
  • Minimum of 3 years of management/supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in business, finance, accounting, higher education, law, or related field.
  • Experience with budget operations in a higher education setting.
  • Proficiency with Banner software.
  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting practices.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with evenings and weekends as needed.
