Throughout its 75-year history, the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work has administered countless externally funded projects targeting children and families. These efforts preceded and provided the impetus for the establishment of the Butler Institute for Families in 1994. Today, we are nationally recognized for our leadership and collaborative work at the national, state, and local level in evaluation, research, and technical assistance aimed at improving the quality of child-, youth-, and family-serving systems.

We bring together researchers, practitioners, public and private service system experts, and community members to: engage in program evaluation and research; examine outcomes; and provide technical assistance and training to program administrators, direct service providers, and community leaders. Currently, Butler conducts business in four primary content areas: child welfare, early childhood systems, tribal child welfare, and behavioral health. These content areas operate within a Research-to-Practice framework that promotes the use, adoption, adaptation, replication, and/or scaling of research and/or evaluation knowledge and the integration of this knowledge in practice. Position Summary

The Program Associate position is responsible for capacity-building through product development that supports knowledge management and dissemination, including, but not limited to, primary support for the National Child Welfare Workforce Institute (NCWWI) federal multi-year project and the Capacity Building Center for Tribes (CBCT) federal multi-year project. This position is responsible for constructing and implementing strategies to develop products, including writing and creating storyboards for audio/visual products, developing one-page information materials, developing online learning opportunities such as webinars, learning exchanges, and podcasts all designed as culturally-responsive products for American Indian/Alaska Native tribal child welfare program workforce development. Strategy and product development include leading the identification and engagement of appropriate subject matter experts, synthesizing information from interviews to create products, and working with members of Butlers creative team and NCWWI/CBCT team members to finalize and disseminate products. Product development, knowledge management and dissemination tasks will be informed by adult learning principles, indigenous ways of being, and engagement approaches from culturally-relevant perspectives for American Indian/Alaska Native people, with a special focus on tribal child welfare content. The position will report to the Butler Director of Practice Innovations.

The Program Associate has product development and production experience, especially in creation and design that is targeted to and appropriate for tribal communities. This position requires experience designing and creating products with a racial-equity lens and that incorporate culturally based approaches of American Indians/Alaska Natives, such as story-telling. The program associate is responsible for supporting design activities, overseeing and/or conducting collection of subject matter material such as audio, visual and written information, leading the work of product development from initial concept to final product dissemination, and collaborating with funders, community partners, providers, and stakeholders.

Essential Functions

Strategy and Product Development

  • Use a critical thinking lens to determine whether products reflect appropriate cultural images, language, and other elements.
  • Align written products and learning development events with desired and overarching messages of projects.
  • Participate in framing and developing storyboards for microvideo, podcast, or eLearning products.
  • Identify and coordinate subject matter expertise to inform product development and provide feedback on appropriateness of cultural content and images.
  • Interview subjects and gather audio and video footage.
  • Create products under guidance from project leads and/or Principal Investigators.
  • Develop written items, including infographics, one-pagers, PowerPoint presentations, and other materials that present key messages for promotion of workforce development.
  • Collaborate with team members on tasks and activities of product development.
  • Execute and oversee the product development process.

Project Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Dissemination

  • Provide project management for product development including establishing timelines and ensuring timelines are met.
  • Independently manage components of the work with multiple stakeholders and tasks.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with clients, programs, and other key project stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and sensitivity to the historical and contemporary political and social contexts of American.
  • Indian/Alaska Native tribes, communities, and individuals, and the ability to interact with stakeholders representing diverse tribal cultures, worldviews, and experiences.
  • Lead the development and dissemination of resources and products to key stakeholders and relevant audiences, including soliciting and incorporating a range of tribal perspectives, where appropriate.
  • Co-present information through varied online learning delivery methods, including co-presentation at conferences or other dissemination events.
  • Significantly contribute to presentations using effective writing skills and understanding of American Indian/Alaska Native tribal values, culture and perspectives.
  • Communicate and engage effectively with community and interdisciplinary collaborators and modify communication and engagement styles as required by specific tribal contexts.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including significant experiencing formatting, editing, and creating aesthetic visual presentations using PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to work independently with support and supervision.
  • Knowledge and skills in working with persons from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or human services.
  • Experience in project coordination, child welfare policy or practice (including workforce development), communication, marketing, and collaboration with multiple groups of diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience working in American Indian/Alaska Native tribal or other Indigenous communities.
  • Three or more years as a project coordinator.
  • Understanding of issues, policies, and practices of child-, youth-, and family-serving systems, as well as those of American Indian/Alaska Native tribes, communities, and families.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social work.
  • Three or more years working in a team environment navigating multiple priorities and processes with diverse participants.
  • Experience in the use and exploration of technology including project management software, webinar and video conferencing tools, and social media channels.
  • Experience with eLearning development.
  • Experience with knowledge management platforms.
  • Experience working with grant funded environments in government, nonprofit, or university settings.
  • Bilingual in English and an American Indian/Alaska Native language.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Fully remote work during COVID-19. Evenings and weekends as required. Full time telework/remote work schedule available as an option.
