Essential Functions

  • In direct coordination with the Master Teacher (MT) and administrative staff, assist in the implementation of Fisher recommended practices in curriculum, classroom environment, daily schedules, classroom modifications and adaptations, teacher/child interactions, facilitation of play, participation in all staff trainings.
    • Jointly develops and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the individual interests, needs, and abilities of the children in the classroom and the group as a whole.
    • Facilitates classroom and program development in direct coordination with the MT and admin staff. Assists in the facilitation of curriculum implementation.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures related to the implementation of the NAEYC and program standards.
    • Participates daily in team planning of curriculum and classroom routine with the MT and other appropriate staff
    • Assists the MT in maintaining classroom discipline and conflict resolution strategies as directed and acts as a role model to students.
    • Supervises and participates in developmentally appropriate outdoor play activities on a daily basis.
  • Participates in the team assessment of each child developmentally, ensures adequate documentation is completed, and develops individual goals, involving parents in the process. 
    • Assists to implement a method for child observations, completes anecdotal records and portfolio development.
    • Jointly completes assigned assessment responsibilities including the following: a) record observations for 4 data checkpoints per year using Fisher assessment and portfolio tools b) photograph assigned children c) compile anecdotal records, work samples, video/audio records, d) schedule and facilitate portfolio conferences at the end of the school year.
  • Assists the team to establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment for all children.
    • Assists in maintaining a safe classroom environment (indoors and outdoors) to meet program standards, rules, regulations and accreditation standards.
    • Assists the team to complete and maintain all necessary documentation to demonstrate compliance with program, health and safety regulations and requirements.
    • Jointly implements all current health and safety regulations per licensing, NAEYC, and Fisher guidelines, in classrooms, playgrounds, motor room, fieldtrips, walks, and any evacuations.
    • Adheres to federal, state, and university health and safety policies and procedures.
    • Supervises and participates in developmentally appropriate outdoor play activities on a daily basis
  • Participates in planning that includes observations and assessments of the children, development of weekly curricular goals/activities, individualization of the curriculum based on the individual interests, needs, and abilities of the children in the classroom and the group as a whole, development of weekly curricular goals/activities. 
    • Demonstrates knowledge of content and developmental areas by creating experiences that engage children in purposeful and meaningful learning related to key curriculum concepts.
    • Utilizes multiple sources (including results of informal and formal assessments as well as children’s initiations, questions, and interests) to:
      • identify what children have learned.
      • adapt curriculum and teaching to meet children’s needs and interests.
      • foster children’s curiosity.
      • extend children’s engagement.
      • support self-initiated learning
  • Serves as a productive member of an interdisciplinary team. 
    • Works cooperatively with Fisher Inclusion Team in the provision of universal strategies, accommodations, and the development of goals for children with special needs.
    • Initiates and sustains positive working relationships with team members, center and University personnel as well as community agencies.
    • Contributes to an effective classroom team through consistent communication and planning.
    • Utilizes effective communication strategies in all facets of the job.
  • Other duties 
    • Participation in all staff trainings.
    • Attends all scheduled staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
    • Obtains and maintains appropriate educational certificate or credential and submits to the director a record of training attended and classes taken during the program year.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent credits in ECE, Elementary Education, Special Education, Family and Child Development or Child Psychology.
  • 1 or more years of experience working with children.
  • Willingness to work with children in an inclusive environment.
  • Must be able to push, pull, or lift 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in ECE or related field.
  • 2 or more years of classroom experience in a NAEYC accredited early childhood group setting.
  • Knowledge and experience working with children who have special needs. 

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Evening and weekends as required.

Hourly Range

The hourly range for the position is $17.18 - $22.22.
