Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence (SAIE) is the student affairs division of the University of Denver. SAIE includes Housing and Residential Education, Student Engagement, Health and Counseling, Learning Effectiveness Program, Disability Service Program, Cultural Center, Student Rights and Responsibilities, New Student & Family Programs, and Access and Transitions.

Department Introduction Student Outreach & Support (SOS) helps students succeed by connecting them to resources, developing a plan of action to meet their goals, and navigating challenging situations. The SOS staff creates an inclusive and welcoming environment for students to develop skills in self-awareness, self-advocacy, resilience, and navigation to maximize their educational experience.

Position Summary

Position Summary The Case Manager position supports the needs of students in areas related to academics, mental and physical health, economic concerns, discipline issues, family relationships and difficulties with social adjustments through a variety of interventions, referrals and follow up services. Responsibilities include information gathering, needs assessment, risk assessment, crisis intervention and case management. The position also involves collaboration and consultation with faculty, staff, health care providers, parents, and colleagues within the University. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month position. Reports to the Associate Director of Student Outreach & Support.

Essential Functions

Case Management

  • Uses a comprehensive case management system to support the needs of students in areas
    related to academics, mental and physical health, economic concerns, discipline issues, family
    relationships and difficulties with social adjustments through a variety of interventions, referrals
    and follow up services.
  • Makes outreach to and follows up with students as needed.
  • Communicates with campus and community partners as needed.
  • Maintain concise and accurate electronic case management records.

Education and Training

  • Participates in training and educational events for the campus community.
  • Consults with members of the campus community on individual student cases.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with campus partners to identify ways to effectively support students.
  • Serve as an ambassador to the office in identifying and maintaining relationships within the campus community.

Administrative

  • Administer various programs within the SOS office (ie. Medical Leave of Absence, Fund programs,
    Bereavement Notification, Basic Needs Assessment, etc.).

Other Duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present effectively to a variety of audiences, including faculty, administrators, students and student affairs staff. Strong organizational, planning, and program development skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with departments across the university. Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated track record of effectively working with students in crisis.
  • Ability to work effectively with parents and families.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Experience with case management.
  • Experience working with individuals with emotional and mental health conditions.
  • 2-3 years professional experience working in higher education, social work, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree, or coursework completed towards a Masters degree in Counseling, Psychology,
    Work, Higher Education, Student Development or related field.
  • Experience working with college age students.
  • Experience with and knowledge about, and skills in, developmental, psychological and medical
    issues in the college student population.
  • Experience with proactive and preventative education and programming.
  • One (1) year working with high risk populations including assessing suicide ideation.
  • Experience with crisis case management.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office environment and the ability to communicate effectively
    through email is essential.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is 7.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $50,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
