Position Summary

The Lamont School of Music seeks an exceptional musician with broad knowledge of and experience in the contemporary commercial and/or popular music industry to join our faculty in the Fall of 2022 in a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Contemporary Popular Music. Placed in the Department of Jazz and Commercial Music Studies, this individual will demonstrate a commitment to inclusive pedagogy and will contribute to the training of the coming generations of Lamont graduates as stylistically nimble, entrepreneurial, and technologically skilled artist-citizens committed to the public good.

Essential Functions

  • Teach existing or new courses that align with the new faculty members interest and experience.
  • Create, coach, and coordinate contemporary music-industry performance ensembles.
  • Collaborate in coordination with ongoing student production projects with the Lamont Bachelor of Music Recording and Production program.
  • Maintain a dynamic portfolio of creative activity (e.g., performances, recordings, installations, publications).
  • Foster relationships with other centers of creative practice on campus, such as Film Studies and Production, Theatre, Emergent Digital Practices, etc.
  • Actively recruit students, internally and externally, to the Lamont School of Music.
  • Mentor and advise students pursuing degrees in Jazz and Commercial Music and the Certificate in Music Entrepreneurship.
  • Serve on School of Music and University governance committees as assigned or elected, audition committees for incoming students, and recital boards and/or examination committees for graduate students.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music or equivalent advanced degree.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National or international reputation in contemporary, commercial, or popular music as a performer, producer, composer, recording musician, or musical artist.
  • Experience with contemporary applications of technology in commercial or popular music.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $68,000 - $74,000 plus a stipend to support professional development.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
