Reporting to the Access Services Manager, the Reserves and Course Support Supervisor is responsible for coordinating course support services, including physical and electronic reserves, and streaming media. This position manages the course support services in close collaboration with staff in multiple library locations, supervises course reserves library staff, coordinates reserves workflows, and manages the day-to-day setup and usage of the Ex Libris Leganto Course Reading List software. This position will be instrumental in creating a vision for the future of Course Reserves and streaming services. Scheduled hours will be Tuesday-Thursday 12pm-8pm and Friday-Saturday 10am-6pm. On occasion the schedule requires flexibility as this position provides coverage for other staff and for changes to operating hours as needed.

Position Summary

The University of Denver Libraries, comprised of the Main Library at the Anderson Academic Commons, a remote storage facility called the Hampden Center, and the Bonfils Stanton Music Library in the Newman Center, is a highly collaborative organization that serves a diverse population, ranging from our students, staff, and faculty to public and other academic patrons from the surrounding region. Essential Functions

Course Support Services 

  • Serve as University Libraries coordinator for Leganto Course Reading-List Solutions. Seek out learning opportunities and ideas on ways to enhance the use of Leganto for the University of Denver stakeholders. Train Course Reserves and Access Services staff on use of Leganto.
  • Manage and coordinate incoming course reserve requests, keep orderly files, track use of reserves, and prepare statistical reports. Manage copyright on reserve items. Accept permissions or decline permissions and fees to avoid unwanted charges. Keep detailed records of reserve items, permission requests, and status of requests, charges, and invoices. Contact copyright owners directly to obtain permission in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Create and disseminate training materials to assist faculty in creating course reserve requests. Provide one-on-one assistance to faculty to assist them with using Leganto.
  • Working with Access Services manager and liaison librarians, explores approaches to communicating about reserves and course support services and policies to faculty to ensure an effective, high-quality, and sustainable service model.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to increase faculty use of Leganto and other relevant services provided by the University Libraries.
  • Stays abreast with all issues involving course support, including software, hardware, policy, process, trends and best practices.

Staff Management 

  • Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates Reserves Unit staff. Responsible for delegating activities related to staffing this unit, such as scheduling, training, and workflow. Promote a positive and effective working environment.

Service Desk On-Call 

  • Works on-call at the Service Desk assisting and coaching student employees on Service Desk activities utilizing the Alma system to check-out and check-in library material, collect and negotiate fines utilizing the credit card machine, answer user questions utilizing the University Libraries website and electronic resources, and refer patrons to the appropriate department within the library or DU campus as needed. Handles patron questions and concerns, communicates and handles service problems politely and efficiently, always available for patrons, follows procedure to solve patron problems, maintains pleasant and professional image.
  • Assists with night coverage during 24 hour extended hours, (November, March, and June) and opens library occasionally on Saturdays at 9am.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team-based organization, ability to use an automated library system and PC, ability and willingness to troubleshoot office equipment, ability to collect and analyze statistics, ability to maintain clerical records, ability to follow establishes procedures and to perform work requiring considerable attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated experience to work independently, organize own work, and coordinate work activities of others. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library staff, users, and university faculty. Ability to perform detailed work in an automated system, ability to prioritize and delegate fluctuating workloads, and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience in public services or customer service is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Leganto Course Reading-Lists software or a similar system, experience working in a library, supervisory experience.

Work Schedule
Tuesday-Thursday 12pm-8pm and Friday-Saturday 10am-6pm.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 5.

Hourly Range:
The hourly range for the position is $17.37 - $20.43.
