The University of Denver seeks an energetic, talented and innovative career coach and advisor for a full-time position in the Daniels Career Services (DCS) office at the Daniels College of Business. The successful applicant will join a dedicated team that directly supports the career planning, development and employment outcomes for the students and alumni of the college. Priority is placed on developing and facilitating innovative and ground-breaking strategies, methodologies and programs that improve student and post-graduate employment outcomes. Coach & Advise Students: Responsible for coaching, advising, and meeting with individuals, and small and large groups with a caseload of diverse graduate and/or undergraduate-level business students. Establishes a schedule for appointments and walk-in/drop-in on campus and remote access advising for students and alumni. Work with groups of DCB students and alumni in all aspects of career planning and job search strategy. Use career services tools and data entry platforms to track and report student career progress. Communicate with students, marketing/reaching out to them as appropriate on regular schedule. Develop and share both general and industry sector specific understanding of the related professions to help guide and inform student career paths. Manage a student and assist with collecting student employment data for internships and full time offers. Will use email, video conferencing, social media and other forms of communication/marketing techniques to establish and build relationships with students and promote Daniels Career Services programs and events.
Strategic Planning: Develop, deploy and manage strategic initiatives to improve student engagement and competencies, industry connectivity, and partnership opportunities for the Daniels College. Benchmark and assess the effectiveness of career services activities, programs and resources through data collection and analysis. Works as a program lead or in a collaborative role on career management and professional development projects and programs; as a part of the overall team that creates and delivers professional development programs. Be a part of the team accountable for supporting the Daniels in Focus and DU IMPACT 2025 strategic plans and for increases in student and employer satisfaction and in increased employment opportunities for and employment rates of students.
Career Program Management: Serve as project lead on numerous student career preparation, student engagement and employer relations programs. Facilitate development programming that can be delivered in the classroom or asynchronously. Develop strong relationships with academic department chairs, directors and faculty to facilitate the support of career and professional development activities and events. Collaborates with DCS Employer Relations, and cross-functionally in order to deliver career content to all Daniels students and alumni. Accountable for participating in the collection of data and outcome reporting to MBA-CSEA, AACSB and NACE standards and guidelines for post-graduation outcomes. Responsible for developing current and relevant industry sector knowledge and expertise; be a professional sector Subject Matter Expert, and be a liaison between the applicable academic departments, sector employers and students exploring career opportunities within those sectors.
Research and Marketing of Career Resources and Lead Generation: Coordinate with Daniels Career Services staff to create and distribute up-to-date career services information relevant to current and prospective students and alumni. Collaborate with stakeholders to create recruiting opportunities. Enthusiastic and positive contributor in both individual and collaborative efforts to continuously test and build innovative and effective student engagement initiatives that drive improved employment outcome.
General Management/Other: Collaborate with student-facing service units in the College to ensure integration of Career-focused platforms Maintain ongoing professional development through involvement with relevant professional and trade associations. Support and attend orientation, pre-orientation, graduation and prospective student events. Support and drive success of student outreach, provide guidance to other career advisors, and other responsibilities as assigned. Serve as a liaison between Daniels Career Services, and the DU Career & Professional Development Center.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of theoretical knowledge of higher education (i.e. student development, career counseling).
- Ability to interact with corporate recruiters to facilitate the successful recruitment of students.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills. This person must possess the ability to communicate as well as develop and maintain relationships with students from a wide variety of social, ethnic and economic backgrounds.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills, (i.e. to independently prioritize work, handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to market and evaluate programs, maintain accurate and detailed records, work independently with little direct supervision, and lead and/or participate on multiple team projects.
- Computer literacy, Slack, Microsoft software: Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint.
- Must be able to work with a high level of independence, perform under pressure, and plan ahead by anticipating problems and forecasting outcomes, and deal with difficult individuals while maintaining composure. Must possess the professional presence and self-confidence to work with a wide range of students.
- Bachelors degree or (Veterans with equivalent combination of military certification/education and experience may substitute for the degree qualification).
- 3-5 years of professional business experience focused on management, product marketing and development, operations, analytics, consulting, or finance.
- Overall experience should include at least three years of professional experience in a role with a recruiting or professional mentoring component.
- Masters degree strongly preferred.
- At least 3 years of prior experience in a higher education and/or graduate management career services role, or a similar level of professional experience with recruiting or executive search.
- Experience with recruiting software programs.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis, database management/development. Experience in budgeting/forecasting.
- Experience in academic program planning/development.
Monday - Friday, generally 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Flexible schedule to encourage and accommodate student access.

The salary grade for the position is 10.
The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
