Position Summary

With a focus on all regions outside of Denver where there is a high concentration of potential prospects (East Coast, Midwest, and West regions), the Director of Development will be dedicated to helping DU grow and expand its base of philanthropic support from major gift prospects aligned with DUs top priorities. These new positions will report directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Development and be based in Denver.

As part of a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative team supporting DUs top priorities in the region, the Director of Development will serve in a highly outbound capacity with a heavy focus on identification and qualification of major gift prospects through initial solicitations of gifts in the $1,000-$50,000 (Leadership Annual Giving) range annually. With a donor-centered approach, the director will cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects toward sustained giving at the major gift level and recommend for major gift cultivation. The key performance indicators for this position will be strategic qualifications, visits, solicitations, dollars raised, and major gift referrals. While the focus of this role is working with individual prospects and donors, the Director of Development will also work in partnership with the Director of Regional Engagement to support  campaign programing and volunteer management, as well as communication within the regions.

Successful candidates will be highly collaborative, motivated, and skilled at building relationships. In addition, they will be deeply involved in the growth and expansion of DUs donor base across the university. The University of Denver is also unique in its academic portfolio, which boasts both strong undergraduate programs and experiences, as well as highly respected graduate and professional programs. Alumni identify with both the institution, as well as their specific academic units within it, and the Director of Development must be creative in their strategic approach with prospects to emphasize the intersection of those identities. The director will partner closely with colleagues working within the specific schools, colleges, and units to align strategies for the regional constituents. The regional team operates in a highly collaborative fashion with their colleagues in academic units and with the entire DU Advancement team.
