Ricks Center for Gifted Children at the University of Denver is an exemplary program for gifted children. We provide nationally recognized gifted education to approximately 230 students ranging from three years of age through eighth grade, who demonstrate exceptional, differentiated abilities and learning needs.

Position Summary The Long Term Substitute Teacher will assist in the planning and implementation of the classroom curriculum and environment to facilitate the cognitive, social-emotional, physical, language development, and well-being of the students within an enriching educational setting. This position is a member of the teaching team collaborating in the planning, organization, implementation and delivery of care and curricula based on the mission and philosophy of the school. The Long Term Substitute Teacher will develop a classroom plan for curriculum and individual child planning, as well as daily family communication as agreed upon with the Lead Teacher, Gifted Coach and the administration. The Long Term Substitute Teacher will direct the development and implementation of the classroom environment, curriculum, and family communication in the absence of the Lead Teacher.

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree in ECE, Elementary Education, Special Education, Family and Child Development or Child Psychology or CDHS Division of Child Care Group Leader Qualification
  • Willingness to work with children in an inquiry-based learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
  • 2 or more years of classroom experience in a NAEYC accredited early childhood group setting.
  • Knowledge and experience working with students who have special needs and/or who are gifted.
  • Experience working with children in an inclusive environment.

Work Schedule

  • Monday-Friday (8am-4pm).

Hourly Range

The hourly range for this position is $22-26.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
