The Morgridge College of Education (MCE) at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications in the Department of Counseling Psychology for a one-year, 12-month Visiting Assistant Professor of Practice. This is a benefited, full-time, one-year visiting appointment (non-tenure track) for the 2022-2023 academic year. Located in the city of Denver, DU is the oldest and largest independent university in the Rocky Mountain Region with high research activity and enrolls approximately 11,500 students in its undergraduate, graduate, and professional preparation programs. Denver is quickly becoming one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the U.S. Census data show that Denver's population includes 11.1% Black or African American, 31.7% Hispanic or Latino, 2.8% Asian American, and approximately 1% Native American residents. Position Summary

We seek a candidate with a proven record of excellence in teaching, supervision, mentoring/advising, and clinical work, as well as who values our mission of serving the public good and inclusive excellence. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion through their teaching and service. The ideal candidate demonstrates experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy. The position will require an innovative and critical thinker who is capable of working within a dynamic environment.

Essential Functions

Specific responsibilities include: teaching masters and doctoral courses in counseling psychology, advising graduate students, and serving on department and college committees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of teaching methods.
  • Outstanding teaching skills.
  • Initiative and ability to work both independently and in a collaborative, collegial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with diverse communities or evidence of a commitment to incorporate inclusive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence, equity, and access in education.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counselor education and supervision or a closely related field.
  • Prior experience in teaching and supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience working with diverse populations and demonstrated knowledge, experience, and versatility in inclusive pedagogy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience at the graduate level.
  • Although the area of specialty is open, we are seeking candidates who can advance our department priorities by teaching courses related to theory, counseling techniques, and practicum/internship.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $62,700.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
