HERS is a dynamic and independent non-profit dedicated to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive community of women leaders through various strategies with a special focus in higher education. HERS alumnae include more than 6,000 women on approximately 1,200 campuses in the U.S., as well women from institutions in Canada, South Africa, Uganda, Nigeria and other nations. HERS offices have been located on the University of Denver campus since 1983. Full-time HERS staff members can use and take advantage of all University of Denver employee benefits and services.

Position Summary

The Director, Programs is responsible for the design, implementation, management, supervision, and evaluation of programs consistent with the HERS mission, vision and strategic priorities. As a member of the executive leadership team, alongside the HERS President, the Director, Finance and Administration, and the Director, Marketing and Recruiting, the Director, Programs participates in strategic planning, program and project development, growth planning, and budgeting. The director is a frequent liaison between HERS and its constituents and facilitates communication, collaboration, and problem-solving among all parties to support high-quality development and implementation of HERS program offerings and participant satisfaction.

The Director will lead HERSs cornerstone program the HERS Leadership Institute (HLI) as well as all other programming. It is expected that the Director will not only ensure that current programming thrives and grows but that new programming is developed to meet the needs of current and future women leaders in higher education. The Director will work with HERS President and other HERS staff in raising the organizations national reputation, especially in the DE+I space, and enhancing engagements for HERS alumnae.

Essential Functions

Program

  • Steward the planning and delivery of all HERS programs, including the recruitment of facilitators and program participants.
  • Continually evaluate current programs, including the potential for developing new opportunities, both in-person and virtually.
  • Enrich the quality of networking experiences for HERS alumnae.
  • Promote and cultivate HERSs distinctiveness and niche relative to competitors, including a plan to create additional affordable options for potential participants.
  • Communicate with participants, facilitators, staff members, and alums.
  • Manage participant issues, concerns, and grievances that may impact the participant experience before and during the program.
  • Working in collaboration with the Senior Program Managers, plan the delivery of all program offerings, including schedules and creation of cohort groups.
  • Continually evaluate curriculum and modify or add to meet the needs of women leaders.
  • Other duties as necessary to deliver high quality program offerings aligning with the HERS mission and vision.

Organization 

  • Contribute to the strategic planning of the organization and the implementation of the plan.
  • As a member of the leadership team, regularly monitor the health of the organization, providing suggestions for addressing issues as they arise.

Personnel 

  • Mentor, support, and supervise the Programs Team members.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with members of the Leadership Team.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with the Programs Team.

Fiscal

  • Participate in the development of the annual budget.
  • Approve final budget, staff travel expenses, and program staffing expenses.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of the trends and emerging issues in higher education at the national level, including those related to technology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development that addresses the complex, diverse needs of women in higher education and particularly adult learners.
  • Demonstrated capacity to think strategically, innovatively, and creatively to design programming that meets the needs of HERS participants.
  • An ability to analyze the financial impact of existing and potential programs.
  • The ability to make connections or create a network to help support participants and to attract program facilitators.
  • An open, authentic and highly relational personality.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to listen closely and exude executive presence.
  • Ability to navigate stressful situations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to simultaneously handle the regular demands of intersecting projects.
  • The capacity to support, inspire, and collaborate with a staff of varied levels and talents and lead them toward increasingly stronger performance as a team.
  • Ability to travel (30+%) on behalf of and represent HERS.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience (Veterans with equivalent combination of military certification/education and experience may substitute for this qualification).
  • 5-7 years of experience in a leadership role in higher education.
  • Experience with HERS or similar leadership/professional development programs.
  • Formal or informal experience with professional development programs specializing in coaching and/or mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate or terminal degree.
  • 7-10 years of experience in a leadership role in higher education.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Ability to travel (30+%) on behalf of and represent HERS.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 15.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $137,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
