Position Summary

We are seeking (4) graduate or highly qualified undergraduate students to assist with administrative, program, and research support on an18 month-long research project related to poor air quality in the Commerce City, Globeville, Elyria-Swansea communities due to toxic air pollution from Suncor Refinery. Ramona Beltrán (DU) and Stephanie Malin (CSU) are principal investigators working in collaboration with Cultivando community organization. The primary responsibilities of this position involve scheduling and conducting in-depth interviews, helping track and administer the related database, data analysis, and work with Cultivando and community members

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

  • Attend virtual meetings and in-person gatherings/community meetings to assess the community’s research needs
  • Assist the Program Manager in outreach and scheduling interviews
  • Conduct in-depth interviews (virtual and in-person, depending on COVID-19), and set up interview locations and equipment
  • Assist in administrative communication and coordination
  • Enter, clean, and assist in the analysis of data
  • Assist with developing and maintaining secure database of participant information, interview transcripts, and other confidential data
  • Conduct literature searches, obtain articles, and format references when necessary

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bilingual/bicultural (Spanish)
  • Demonstrated experience planning for and conducting in-depth interviews with vulnerable populations
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple supervisors and a team of undergraduate students, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows
  • Experience with social science research data collection, methods, or analysis
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
  • Demonstrated experience conducting community-based research
  • Work with minimal supervision and a high level of personal maturity
  • Interested in working on health research projects with Latinx communities
  • Interested in gaining and advancing research skills
  • Highly-motivated and detail-oriented
  • Demonstrated experience with community-based research

Work Environment

The research conducted in this project will take place in multiple settings including participant homes, community organizations and/or in public spaces. Depending on COVID-19 safety, interviews could also be conducted from home virtually. Data analysis, management, and organization can largely be conducted remotely. Some travel to and from either DU or CSU may also occur.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • Ability to sit to conduct interviews.
  • Ability to transport oneself to interview locations.

Schedule

About 40 hours per week, variable based on research schedule with a maximum of 1000 hours per calendar year.

Hourly Range

The hourly rate for this position is $20.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
