Position Summary

The Clinical Field Manager in the Office of Field Education assumes a leadership role in providing a student-centered placement process. Under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Field Education, with direct supervision by the Associate Director(s) for Field Education, this position will direct various aspects of the student placement process and provide supervision to a team of field coordinators. They will also provide supervision and mentorship to adjunct field faculty who teach within the field education program in order to facilitate communication and conflict resolution between students and agency field supervisors and ensure the integrity of learning in field placement sites. This position will be responsible for contributing to the integration of academic coursework and field placement; program and policy development; quality assurance and program assessment; agency screening, development, and approval; placement of students into appropriate field sites; the development, coordination, and delivery of field related events and trainings; and other duties as assigned. The Clinical Field Manager will work across all programs but will have primary responsibility with the MSW@Denver program, and secondarily with Denver Campus.

Essential Functions

Direct Student Placements (55%): Provide management and leadership to direct all aspects of the placement process for the MSW@Denver program, including: process and policy development, primary liaison to 2U Placement Manger for problem resolution and process improvement, management of faculty approval process for placements, management of escalated concerns and unique placement situations, placement needs assessment, development and facilitation of student information sessions and orientation content, direct placement pacing and process management.

Supervision (20%): Direct internal team of field coordinators responsible for student placements.

Supervise Adjunct Faculty Field Liaisons (10%): Including training and orientation, providing mentorship, performance assessment and development planning.

Student and Community Engagement (5%): Guide and support students experiencing field disruption, develop new community partnerships as internship sites, meet with students to assess learning needs and match with agencies, manage requests for unique placements.

Other Department and Field Program Responsibilities (10%).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of social work as a field of practice and an understanding of the role of field education in the curriculum.
  • Knowledge of systems of social and human services in order to build community relationships and advise students of fields of practice.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in mediation or conflict resolution.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to comfortably learn and navigate emerging technology, including use of database systems to manage and organize field functions.
  • Demonstrated autonomy in decision making.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability represent the Graduate School of Social Work in communities in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated commitment, knowledge and ability to effectively engage individuals from broadly diverse communities.

Required Qualifications

  • MSW degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited institution. Related Master’s Degrees will be considered
  • Eight years relevant post MSW or related graduate degree practice experience. Candidates may substitute three years of relevant practice experience that was completed pre- or concurrent with the graduate degree for one year of required post graduate degree practice experience
  • Two years of experience as a field liaison (adjunct field faculty) or social work task supervisor or field instructor. Candidates may substitute 5 years of serving students in a social work field education office for the required field liaison or field supervisor experience
  • Ability to articulate understanding of social work knowledge, skills, and values in cover letter

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of direct supervisor experience

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Hybrid work schedule available.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 10.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $63,000-$70,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
