Position Summary

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

The University of Denver Prison Arts Initiative (DU PAI) promotes access to high-quality therapeutic arts programs to incarcerated people in Colorado with the goal of empowering individuals to improve the quality of their lives and prepare to make positive changes in their communities upon release. DU PAI sees this work as part of DU's commitment to be "a great private university dedicated to the public good.” DU PAI's mission is to provide therapeutic, educational creative arts programming to incarcerated men and women in Colorado state prisons. DU PAI programming is offered in every prison in the state of Colorado, with robust programming in 12 Colorado Department of Correction prisons.

Essential Functions

Development Management Tasks

Cultivating Donors and Fundraising  

  • Research funding sources and identifying prospects  
  • Oversee the development of fundraising plans  
  • Write and apply for grants  
  • Stewardship of Donors (thank yous, etc) 
  • Managing and acting as liaison between DU central and CAHSS Advancement for funding purposes  
    • Working with DU Central and CAHSS Advancement on funding plans  
  • Work in partnership with staff, educators, partner organizations, incarcerated participants, and Director of Research to gather stories and statistics that demonstrate the organization’s work to funders and the general public  
  • Sharing the narrative of DU PAI to all external stakeholders  

Other support to DU PAI as needed

  • Fielding meetings from outside organizations/partners -- if needed
  • Manages work studies and interns as needed   
  • Supports on general DU PAI projects as needed 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, reports and other pertinent information.
  • Ability to interact with CAHSS faculty, employees, and students
  • Ability to interact with Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) staff and participants
  • Ability to do basic math and accounting
  • Ability to work with spreadsheets
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships.
  • Ability to take initiative in performing duties and work reliably without constant direct supervision
  • Solid computer skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years’ experience working with community partners
  • 1-3 years’ experience working in administration or office management
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant field
  • 3-5 years’ experience working with community partners
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in administration or office management

Work Schedule

10 hours per week / 20 hrs per pay period, exact schedule to be determined with hiring manager.

Hourly Range:
The hourly rate for the position is $17.00-$20.00.
