Position Summary

The Department of Business Ethics & Legal Studies of the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver is looking to hire 1-3 adjunct instructors for the winter and spring quarters of the 2022 – 2023 academic year to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in areas of Business Law, Business Ethics, and Sustainable Business. The Department has immediate and particular interests in hiring qualified instructors to teach:

 (1) LGST 2000 - Foundations of Business Law and Ethics, a sophomore-level undergraduate course providing an introduction to ethical decision-making frameworks and essential areas of business law (e.g., dispute resolution, contracts, business entities & corporate governance, torts, employment law, business crimes, constitutional law, intellectual property, etc.) and,

(2) LGST 3701/4701 - Intellectual Property Law for Business, an upper-level undergraduate/graduate course providing strategic and tactical insights and know-how for protecting competitive advantage through the use of copyrights, patents, trademarks & service marks, and trade secrets as well as the ethical/policy/business implications of relevant intellectual property issues and,

(3) LGST 3701/4701 – Non-Profit Organizations and Public Benefit Corporations, an upper-level undergraduate/graduate course providing an overview of the legal, ethical and operational aspects of these two forms of organizations.

Essential Functions

Adjunct faculty are required to teach as determined by the course schedule, hold office hours, assign papers and exam(s) as appropriate and be available to assist students with assignments. The University operates on a quarter system. Winter Quarter classes run from January 3, 2023 through March 17, 2023. Spring Quarter classes run from March 27, 2023 through June 8, 2023.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an A.B.A.-accredited law school.
  • Ability to successfully teach at the university level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous University-level teaching experience, especially in a business school.
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Relevant academic/professional background in business ethics or moral philosophy.
  • Interest in public policy, sustainability, risk management, and/or entrepreneurship.
  • Desire to join in the academic community of the Department of Business Ethics and Legal Studies, including interest in participating in faculty/student events and continuing to teach courses in subsequent quarters.

Course Rate

Adjunct faculty are compensated at a rate of $1090.00 per credit hour. LGST 2000 (Foundations of Business Law & Ethics) and LGST 3701/4701 (Intellectual Property for Business) are 4-credit courses entailing compensation of $4360.00. LGST 3701/4701 (Non-Profit Organizations and Public Benefit Corporations) may be taught as a 2-credit or 4-credit course. Additional courses or sections may be available.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
