Dean of Students Office: The Cultural Center (TCC)
The mission of The Cultural Center (TCC) is to create an environment where students of color, and LGBTQ+ students can critically engage their historical legacies and enhance their educational, intellectual, and personal/professional interest in race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic, and cultural sensibilities. TCC provides a haven for respite and dialogue for students as they navigate their journey at the University of Denver.
- Increase the presence, participation, and support of historically underrepresented student populations within the institution as well as their retention, success, and sense of belonging
- Provide a community that facilitates success in leadership, scholarship, service, and advocacy through advising, empowerment, cultural enrichment, educational programming, and social development
- Engage members of the University of Denver community, in collaboration with community partners, in the work of inclusivity and diversity toward service to the public good
The Director of TCC Gender and Sexuality Student Success is a senior level position in the Dean of Students (DOS) area and the Division of Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence (SAIE). The Director is responsible for setting the vision for the Cultural Center Gender and Sexuality student support through an intersectional approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). The Director manages the development, assessment, and implementation of programs, signature events, training, and leadership development of undergraduate and graduate LGBTQ+ students.
The Director will work in deeply collaborative ways to: (1) create and develop opportunities for students to connect with and through multiple intersectional identities and expressions; (2) develop and administer inclusive cultural and social support resources for LGBTQ+ undergraduate and graduate students; (3) support and advocate for students from historically underrepresented communities and from a variety of marginalized positionalities; and (4) foster the public good as centrally informed by a commitment to racial, ethnic, cultural, and other social equity outcomes on our campus and beyond.
The Director will work evenings and weekends, as needed. This position is a full-time, 1.0 FTE position reporting to the Associate Dean of Students (Assoc. DOS) for SAIE.
- Provide leadership and guidance for TCC focused on LGBTQ+ students’ visibility, advocacy, and retention
- Supervise, evaluate, and train graduate student assistants and undergraduate student employees
- Develop undergraduate and graduate LGBTQ+ student support, including LGBTQ+ affinity group support, Pride Lounge support, and Pride Closet development
- Serve as TCC/Gender and Sexuality representative on campus-wide committees
- Lead programming, planning the yearly calendar and signature TCC LGBTQ+ programs
- Support Associate Dean of Students in developing policies that impact LGBTQ+ students
- Respond to salient current events and the ways they impact the DU community, especially students from historically underrepresented communities
- Develop and facilitate social justice training for gender and sexuality (including ally and safe zone training) in partnership with Inclusion & Equity Education
- Lead and manage the administration of assessment and budget management
- Manage communication, social media, and website
- Serve as the point of contact for community engagement and support of undergraduate and graduate students, DU, Alumni, and surrounding LGBTQ+ communities
- Cultivate connection and engagement of LGBTQ+ students and Q/T BIPOC students
- Work in partnership with the DOS, Assoc. DOS, SAIE Divisional leadership, the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Inclusion & Equity Education, and First-Generation Student Success plus
- Collaborate with the Director of TCC BIPOC Student Success to align the position’s goals with the TCC’s larger goals
- In consultation with the Assoc. DOS, other duties as assigned to support TCC, the DOS area, the SAIE Division, and the University
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Knowledge of and ability to apply professional ethical standards, current laws, and regulations applicable to students
- Ability to productively engage across student affairs and academic units, departments, and divisions, including building connections with relevant academic centers, programs, initiatives, courses, and faculty experts
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Gender and Women’s Studies, or related field
- Three (3) or more years of administrative and program leadership experience
- Demonstrated commitment to and progressive advancement of DEI
- Progressive leadership experience with DEI in higher education or large organization
- Demonstrated advocacy and leadership related to gender, sexuality, and/ other intersectional identities
- Experience with event planning
- Direct program development experience
- Experience working with students in higher education
- Experience leading teams
- Experience supervising, evaluating, and training full-time professionals
- Experience with strategic planning, assessment, and budget management
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with some nights and weekends required.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 12.
The salary range for this position is $72,000-$85,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
