Reporting to the Director of Wellness and Recreation, the Assistant Director of Student Programs will be responsible for the daily management, promotion, operation, planning, and assessment of the student programs business unit; including without limitation; sales ($1MM+), daily management and promotion of the Coors Fitness Center, fitness and wellness programs, club sports, intramurals, special events, drop-in programs, student programs annual fundraising, and staff training, certification, and development within the Division of Kennedy Mountain Campus, Wellness & Recreation (KMCWR).
Staff Training and Development:
- Administrator of training camp programs (in-person/online) for 400+ Kennedy Mountain Campus, Wellness and Recreation (KMCWR) student and non-appointed employees including topics such as risk management, character development, leadership development, wellbeing, and customer service.
- Coordinate divisional recruitment efforts & events for student employee and non-appointed positions.
- Develop and implement 4D experience leadership development training, curriculum & certification opportunities for student and non-appointed staff and campus leaders.
- Coordinate student and non-appointed employee recognition initiatives and events.
- Manage and facilitate the professional intern program including oversight of hiring procedures, onboarding, ongoing development, and payroll tracking for 4-6 professional interns.
- Oversee & advise the Student KMCWR Leadership Council, a student organization comprised of KMCWR student employee leaders.
- Collaborate with KMCWR Business and Operations to assist with onboarding processes for all KMCWR employees.
- Oversee annual staff training, certification, and development budget.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with KMCWR student and non-appointed staff alumni to build engagement and community.
- Regularly assess and analyze student learning outcomes, program goals, strategic initiatives, and key performance indicators.
- Keep abreast with training and development research and trends.
- Pursue and maintain all necessary instructor certifications related to job responsibilities (American Red Cross Adult & Infant/Child CPR/FA/AED, etc.)
- Lead, manage and develop a strong team of three (3) full time professionals, 4-6 professional interns, and approximately 100 student and non-appointed staff members.
- Day-to-day management, supervision of professional staff, to ensure quality in facility operations, programs, and overall success of wellness and recreation programs, events, and services.
- Establishes clear goals for professional staff and promotes workplace performance including conducting quarterly and annual performance reviews.
- Responsible for planning and execution of comprehensive certifications program to include without limitation: CPR/AED/First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, Wellness Coaching, and other certifications that benefit students and the community.
- Responsible for coordinating certification programs by reserving and coordinating physical spaces and parking, instructor needs, equipment needs, and all other services to ensure safety, quality, and customer experience for all events is at a high standard.
- Provide excellent communication and dissemination of information both prior to and by “meeting and greeting” customers for scheduled certification events.
- Manage staffing levels and administration of the certifications program.
- Reconcile certification events post-event to ensure all fees have been paid and collected and certifications are issued to students and community members in a timely manner.
Program Design and Management:
- Design, plan, organize, schedule (1-year in advance), communicate, and operate a multi-faceted, accessible, and inclusive student sports and wellness program with clear goals and objectives.
- Develop, manage, and reconcile operating and fund budgets on monthly and annual basis to ensure goals are met; collaborate with the Business Operations Manager on assigned funds and use.
- Oversee all documentation for Student Programs (accident reports, incident reports, AOR’s, agreements, participation records, program evaluations, participant evaluations, personnel appraisals and related).
- Implement, manage, and generate revenue from membership, fitness and wellness programs, club sport dues, intramural participation, special events, and certifications.
- Coordinate annual fundraising program for student programs including involvement in #1day4du and giving Tuesday.
Marketing, Promotion & Communication:
- Manage marketing and communications for Student Programs, including weekly newsletters/emails, program launch emails, and social media campaigns and posts.
- Organize opportunities and ensure a presence at promotional events.
- Monitor web site for correct information and to avoid out-of-date information, providing content for blogs and social media.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Bachelor’s Degree in kinesiology, sports management, health education, recreation, student affairs or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three plus (3+) years of experience managing student programs, member services or employee training.
- Master’s Degree in kinesiology, sports management, health education, recreation administration, business administration, student affairs or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five plus (5+) years of experience managing student programs, member services or employee training.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor.
- Wellness Coaching Instructor (ACE, ACSM).
- Works in all weather conditions and varying facilities and environments.
- Works regularly on nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Noise level is moderate.
- Exposure to blood borne pathogens.
- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Some weekends & evenings will be required.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 9.
The salary range for this position is $60,000- $65,000.
