The School of Art and Art History (SAAH) https://liberalarts.du.edu/art at The University of Denver (DU) https://www.du.edu/ invites applications for a six-month Visiting Professor/Artist in Residence in Photography, beginning January through June 2024.
We are seeking a dynamic exhibiting artist with an understanding of technical and conceptual issues, with knowledge of historical and contemporary practices, and a commitment to artistic imagination and education. The ideal candidate demonstrates experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion through their teaching and research.
The Visiting Professor/Artist in Residence will teach one Introduction to Photography Course and one Special Topics Workshop, as well as interact with SAAH students in the form of critiques and guest visits to classes. The remainder of the time will be spent working in the studio as a resident artist. The Visiting Professor/Artist in Residence will present their work in two public lectures (one at the beginning and one at the end of the residency) and there are opportunities for exhibition in SAAH’s Myhren Gallery. We also ask that one work be left at the end of the residency for our University Art Collection.
Prior teaching experience at the college level is required, and the Visiting Professor/Artist in Residence must be able to work independently and fulfill teaching duties without assistance. Materials and supplies are the responsibility of the artist as well as housing in Denver. Expectation is that travel be kept to a minimum and the bulk of the time is spent in residence at DU working and being a creative presence in the SAAH and an inspiration to students.
MFA preferred, although candidates who will graduate in Fall 2023 will be considered. Send a letter of application including the proposal for residency, a one-page statement of how the applicant can contribute to DU’s values, practices, and actions regarding diversity, equity and inclusivity, CV, name and contact information for 3 references, 3 brief course descriptions and a portfolio of 20 images (optional links to sound/video are limited to 5 minutes). Please consolidate all application materials (including your portfolio) into one PDF document. Review of applications will begin one month from posting.
Candidates must demonstrate ability to integrate content and issues relating to, and to work effectively with, ethnically/racially diverse populations. We are an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment regardless of age, race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, military/ veteran status or any other status protected by law.
