Position Summary
The OLLI at DU Communications Director reports directly to the Executive Director and performs key marketing functions for OLLI at DU.
This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for implementing the communication and marketing strategies identified in the strategic planning process while pursuing the implementation of short- and longer-term strategies to increase engagement, visibility, and membership.
- Lead the ongoing work of the Marketing and Communications Committee.
- Conduct research activities to test marketing strategies and messaging effectiveness. Evaluate successes and make iterative improvements to the communications plan and action planning based on agreed upon Key Performance Indicators.
- Develop a Key Communicator Network that will create engagement and expectations for participants (primarily staff, volunteers, and facilitators) to support OLLI at DU with a promise for timely and relevant information to reach each person involved in this effort.
- Review current OLLI at DU materials—print and electronic--and plan for new materials to reflect the current program and pricing of OLLI at DU.
- Produce a weekly newsletter for members that will demonstrate the value proposition of OLLI and the many benefits available to members.
- Seek free PR in community newsletters, newspapers and other electronic and print media.
- Develop consistent sponsorship guidelines and create a plan for outreach to prospective sponsors. This program will constitute a new revenue stream for OLLI and will dovetail with the Finance and Development Committee as well as member benefits and community outreach managers.
- Participate in the implementation of a new database management system and Website for OLLI at DU.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Community Outreach Manager to develop ideas, strategies, and connections for creating value for being a member of OLLI at DU that includes an Adventure Program of domestic and international travel opportunities, as well as Colorado day trips and outings.
- Attend managers meetings to ensure new ideas and strategies are represented in communications efforts.
- Connect with University College staff to leverage communications activities and strategies.
- Develop a crisis communications checklist that will anticipate possible disruptions to our work and define actions needed.

Required Qualifications
- Prior experience in adult education; preferably with those over 50
- Personable; ability to interact well with variety of people; able to anticipate needs
- Organized – able to juggle multiple priorities at once
- Experience with managing large groups of people
- Good communications skills
- Ability to manage time to meet deadlines
- Technology skills
- Experience with Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Experience with Adobe products
- Experience with Zoom
Work Schedule
Varies. This part-time position of up to 1,000 hours per year has a flexible schedule as the duties dictate. There is no designated office.

Hourly Rate
The hourly rate for the position is $39.93.
