Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Youth Programs and the Assistant Director of Competitive Programs, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the University of Denver’s Learn to Swim program and the Denver Master’s Swim Team. The Aquatics Coordinator will work with the Assistant Director of Youth Programs to achieve sales of $250K per year for the Learn to Swim Program, and will work with the Assistant Director of Competitive Programs to achieve sales of $25K per year for the Masters Swim program. They will facilitate the schedule and registrations for both programs, and lead and schedule part-time employees. They will develop positive relationships with participants and parents, and provide feedback and recommendations for the Learn to Swim and Masters Swim programs.

Essential Functions

Customer Service 

  • Assist customers with the registration process (online, phone, or in person).
  • Respond to all new Learn to Swim/Masters Swim inquiries and current parent/participant feedback, comments and questions.
  • Regularly interact with Learn to Swim participants and parents and Masters Swim participants. Communicate program updates and changes as needed (phone, email, or in person).
  • Utilize the swimlessons@du.edu and swimmasters@du.edu email account for all Learn to Swim/Masters Swim related inquiries and program communication.
  • Act as Aquatics “Front Desk” to assist those looking for any Aquatic Program assistance.
  • Assist in other aquatic programs as needed or requested.
  • Responsible for the creation and execution of Masters Swim Newsletter.

Program Design and Management 

  • Responsible for achieving annual Learn to Swim and Masters Swim registration goals and ensuring all accounts are paid in full.
  • Develop Learn to Swim and Masters Swim schedules for each series and submit to the Business Operations Manager for input into Rectrac. Submit schedule adjustments as needed throughout the registration process.
  • Coordinate Learn to Swim and Pre-Team registration for swimmers following the annual Hilltoppers Swim Clinic.
  • Provide on-site supervision for Learn to Swim as scheduled.
  • Ensure Learn to Swim instructors complete and provide participant evaluation cards to all Learn to Swim participants prior to the end of each series.

People Management and Development 

  • Schedule instructors and coaches in SubItUp and ensure all shifts are covered.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, hiring and continued training for Learn to Swim Instructors and Masters Swim Coaches.
  • Conduct evaluations of Learn to Swim instructors and Masters Swim Coaches performance to the Assistant two times per year using department-approved evaluation templates and schedules.
  • Lead regular staff meetings/training for Learn to Swim staff and Masters Swim staff.
  • Manage all timecards for direct reporting staff.

Schedule

  • The Aquatics Coordinator will develop their weekly schedule with the Assistant Director of Youth Programs. Any deviations from the approved schedule must be communicated to the Assistant Director of Youth Programs and any additional hours approved prior to commencing. All work must be completed at the Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness within its business hours unless otherwise approved. Typical schedule would be Monday-Thursday 3-7pm, Saturdays 9am-1pm.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching swim lessons to youth
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lifeguard Certification
  • Experience teaching swim lessons to adults

Working Environment

Works in an office, and off of a pool deck.
Works regularly on nights and weekends
Noise level is moderate.
Exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Physical Activities

Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 50 lbs. with assistance.

Work Schedule
Typical schedule would be Monday-Thursday 3-7pm, Saturdays 9am-1pm.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 7.

Hourly Range:
The hourly range for the position is $22.00 - $25.00.
