About Chemistry and Biochemistry
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (https://science.du.edu/chemistry) offers undergraduate degrees in chemistry, biochemistry and environmental chemistry and graduate degrees with specialization in analytical, biophysical, environmental, and organic chemistry and biochemistry.
Position Summary
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Denver seeks applicants for up to two tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning September 1, 2024, with research interests in the broad area of biochemistry, biophysical chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, chemical biology, and related fields. The successful candidate will have a PhD and post-doctoral experience in a relevant field and demonstrated potential for leadership in their field including a record of high-impact research accomplishments. We are especially interested in applicants who have a demonstrated commitment to or experience incorporating inclusive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations.
The candidate is expected to establish an extramurally-funded research program that augments the research directions of the department. Essential Functions
- Manage a high-impact research program that augments the research directions of the Department, including both undergraduate and graduate students.
- Secure research funding from extramural granting agencies.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in a manner that creates a supportive learning environment for students with a range of backgrounds and professional goals.
- Perform committee assignments in support of Departmental goals.

Required Qualifications
- PhD degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of one year of postdoctoral experience

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising students in a research lab.
- Recipient of a competitive postdoctoral fellowship.
- Experience teaching chemistry/biochemistry at the college level.
Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Work Schedule
While the University's administrative offices are open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $85,000.
