The Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Management (tenure-track).

The Assistant Professor will join the Management Department, which consists of 16 full-time faculty members and offers an undergraduate BSBA major in management, a management minor, an MS in Management, in addition to core classes in the MBA, executive PhD, and other degree programs within the college.

Position Summary

The Assistant Professor of Management will have responsibility for research, teaching, and service. We are open to applicants with a variety of perspectives, research and teaching interests and methodological approaches. We have a preference for candidates interested in research and teaching related to the emerging digital economy, for example: digital or technological innovation; digital transformation; value creation through the application of artificial intelligence; strategy and leadership in the digital future; and digital or technological entrepreneurship.

The Assistant Professor of Management will be expected to teach courses during the academic year, which may include fall, winter, and/or spring quarters. Teaching responsibilities include both undergraduate and graduate level courses using traditional, hybrid, and online delivery methods. Teaching responsibilities may involve day, night, and weekend classes. The Assistant Professor of Management is expected to demonstrate the ability to conduct and publish high-quality research, as well as participate in the academic life of the Department of Management and the Daniels College of Business.

Essential Functions

  • Teaching: The Assistant Professor of Management will be expected to teach six courses throughout the academic year, which may include fall, winter, and spring quarters. DU follows the quarter system, with three, 10-week long academic terms in Fall (early September-late November), Winter (January-mid March), and Spring (Late March-first week of June). The Assistant Professor of Management will be granted summer research support and two course releases for research activity for the first two years. Course releases and summer support for research activity beyond the first two years are subject to a competitive process open to all faculty members. There may also be opportunities to teach during the nine-week summer quarter.
  • Research: The Assistant Professor of Management will be expected to conduct and publish high-quality research (e.g., published in journals on the Financial Times 50 list, those ranked A* by the Australian Business Deans Council, and those ranked 4 or higher in the Association of Business Schools Academic Journal Guide). Maintenance of AACSB Scholarly Academic qualifications is required.
  • Service: The Assistant Professor of Management will be expected to participate in the academic life of the Department of Management and the Daniels College of Business. This includes attendance at faculty meetings, participation in assurance of learning, curriculum development, and active engagement in scholarly activities such as research symposia. Significant involvement with students is expected of all faculty members.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in management or closely related field from an AACSB or EQUIS accredited school. ABD will be considered. The doctoral degree must be completed no later than March 31 of the first year of employment at Daniels. Candidates will hold the title of Instructor until completion of the doctoral degree.
  • Demonstrated potential for strong performance in teaching, research, and service as defined under Essential Functions.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with diverse communities or evidence of a commitment to incorporate inclusive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations.
  • Strong English communication skills (written and oral).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Publications in Financial Times Top 50 journals, those ranked A* by the Australian Business Deans Council, and those ranked 4 or higher in the Association of Business Schools Academic Journal Guide.
  • Research and teaching interests in the digital economy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging diverse populations and students with different learning styles.

Working Environment

  1. Standard office environment.
  2. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
  2. Ability to sit or stand in front of a classroom for an extended period of time.
  3. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule

While the University's administrative offices are open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the Registrar's website (the Law School is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

Salary Grade Number:

The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $170,000 - $190,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
