Human Resources & Inclusive Community division is responsible for developing and delivering a broad range of services in support of the University’s mission, vision and strategies. HRIC is evolving from a traditional operational and service orientation into a highly effective strategic unit advancing the broader strategic initiatives of the University. This role serves as part of the University’s Human Resources & Inclusive Community team and reports to the Benefits Manager.
 
Position Summary
The Leave Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and administering employee leaves, including but not limited to Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program (FAMLI), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), short- and long-term disability, accrued leave and other paid time off, and other types of leaves. This role ensures that all leave-related processes are handled

Essential Functions

  • Serves as the point of contact and coordinator for employee leave of absence requests including the Colorado Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program (FAMLI Program), FMLA, short- and long-term disability, parental leave, sick, vacation and leave without pay to ensure compliance with all applicable rules, regulations and University policies.
  • Confirms eligibility for absence and provides rights and responsibilities notices and pertinent information.
  • Works with internal and external stakeholders to collect required documentation to confirm employee need, eligibility and the duration of the leave.
  • Work closely with employees to address questions and provide guidance to ensure that all necessary and required medical documentation is submitted for timely review and processing.
  • Ensures all relevant documentation is provided and completed and in compliance with applicable timelines.
  • Works with Payroll and third-party insurance vendors to ensure employee benefits and payments are processed and issued as appropriate and in compliance with plan designs.
  • Approve or deny leave requests based on eligibility and proper certification information.
  • Maintains employee leave file with documentation of correspondences and required documents. Preserves confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files.
  • Assist in the creation and facilitation of leave training programs and information sessions
  • Prepare, compile, and analyze reports, statistics, documents, and other data pertinent to leaves and utilization

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of the leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by FAMLI, FMLA, ADA, Workers Compensation and other applicable laws and University policies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates Degree
  • Two (2) years of experience in leave coordination and administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Three (3) years of experience in leave administration.
  • Two (2) years of benefits and leave management experience.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Ellucian Banner experience.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 10.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $62,000 - $72,000

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
