Program Summary

The University of Denver Sturm College of Law seeks to hire a dedicated, experienced, and highly professional individual to direct The Michael G. Massey Professional Mentoring Program (“Mentoring Program”) – one of the most pioneering, innovative, and comprehensive mentoring programs at any U.S. law school.

Named after its visionary founder Michael G. Massey (JD Sturm 1971), the Mentoring Program offers all students and recent graduates of the Sturm College of Law the opportunity to develop a strong and mutually beneficial professional relationship with a professional mentor. Through structured engagement opportunities focused on suggested discussion topics, mentees develop strong, authentic, and long-lasting professional relationships with their professional mentors; explore topics such as ethics, work-life balance, and public service; forge their distinctive professional identities; and expand their professional networks.

The directorship is contemplated as a part-time administrative position, capable of being held alongside other compatible professional and civic commitments that the Director may wish to pursue. The successful candidate would be expected to begin on or before March 1, 2025. The term of the position is two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year upon mutual agreement. 

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

The successful candidate would be expected to undertake the following principal responsibilities: 

  • Lead the Mentoring Program, in collaboration with associated staff;
  • Participate in events associated with the Program; and
  • Partner with the Dean, the Executive Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, staff, mentors, and external partners (including bar associations, law firms, and accounting firms) on initiatives designed to enhance the stature, visibility, and effectiveness of the Mentoring Program.

Required Qualifications

  • A J.D. degree or its equivalent
  • Legal practice and/or judicial experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior mentoring or teaching experience

Work Schedule

The successful candidate would be expected to begin on or before March 1, 2025. The term of the position is two years (8-10 hours per week), with the possibility of renewal for a third year upon mutual agreement.

Compensation

The position pays an annual non-benefited administrative stipend of $10,000.  

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The compensation offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
