Position Summary

The Student Financial Services Advisor position serves as the primary support person in the College helping students navigate their MCE financial aid package. This involves working with prospective and continuing students, explaining the parameters of their aid, cost of attendance, award disbursements, and College policy and practice. The Advisor will be responsible for identifying and resolving issues on student accounts relative to financial aid disbursed by the College. This position is also responsible for applying MCE financial aid to student accounts in both the Banner ERP system and Slate admissions enrollment management system and following up with periodic audits to ensure accuracy. This position will also maintain and manage the College roster of Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships. This position shall report to the Director of the Morgridge Office of Admissions (MOA) with a dotted-line relationship to the Assistant Dean of Budget and Operations in MCE.

Essential Functions

  • Advise students concerning the components of their financial aid package including scholarships, awards, cost of attendance, loans, graduate assistantships and other student employment, disbursements, and other related matters.
  • Assist in the annual strategic planning of aid awarding.
  • Assist MOA during recruiting cycles, including awarding aid in the Slate admissions and enrollment management system and presenting financial aid information during recruiting events.
  • Coordinate activities with the University's central Financial Aid Office as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with University and College policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement communication plan to all MCE students around scholarship offerings, impacts on cost of attendance, policy changes, deadlines, and procedures.
  • Post scholarships and awards on individual student accounts in a timely manner.
  • Maintain schedules of awarding detail and remaining available funds in specific scholarships.
  • Perform periodic audits of awards to students.
  • Post and monitor student employment and Graduate Assistant positions on the MCE website.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good communication skills in a customer service setting.
  • Strong computational and analytical skills and ability are needed to understanding budgeting, financial monitoring, detecting errors, creating complex spreadsheets, and providing analysis.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, discretion and judgment.
  • Effective time management and planning skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of progressively responsible experience in business or administration management to include experience in financial management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 years of progressively responsible experience in business or administration management to include experience in financial management.
  • Previous direct experience in a student financial services advising role.
  • Knowledge of federal student loan policy.
  • Experience in higher education.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Range
Salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
