Position Summary

The part-time Information Technology Project Manager reports directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor IT Budget & Admin Operations. The Assistant Vice Chancellors and IT Leadership are responsible for overseeing the implementation and operational aspects of projects in coordination with the IT Project Management Office. The part-time IT Project Manager (IT PM) will be part of the IT Project Management Office and provide leadership, project management, and oversight of several complex, highly visible, enterprise level or IT specific projects. The part-time IT PM works directly with Assistant Vice Chancellors, IT Directors, IT Managers and others across campus as applicable to effectively manage complex initiatives that span across many organizational boundaries.

This is a non-benefited, part-time positions not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year. 

Essential Functions

  • Follow and deploy best practices for enterprise IT project management for the University that are consistent with business and higher education standards in alignment with the IT Project Management Office.
  • Responsible for drafting all project communications to be reviewed by appropriate project team members as needed
  • Manage or coordinate aspects of IT projects including initiation, planning, base lining, cost management, scope management, change management, resource management, communications, timelines, and quality.
  • Schedule meetings with project team members on a regular basis to identify requirements and tasks, review project status, discuss any issues, and plan future actions
  • Document project meetings for the delivery of written project status updates to the project team and sponsors
  • Responsible for providing weekly project updates that roll-up into the project portfolio
  • Execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing need and requirements.
  • Log and track action items, risks, issues, and decisions using project management software
  • Review task completion for accuracy and follow up with team members on overdue tasks
  • Validate deliverables against the project requirements
  • Communicate and document any risks and issues that arise during the course of project management functions with the project sponsors
  • Develop and maintain any necessary project reports and documentation as needed for the PMO
  • Collaborate with key stake holders including: VC/CIO, IT AVCs, technology staff, University partners, and vendors to define business objectives, project scope, deliverables, exceptions, and results.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental functions in order to minimize delays.
  • Assist with other project management-related items as assigned

  • IT Project leadership at an enterprise level.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrated understanding of practical IT project management responsibilities:
    • task management
    • vendor management
    • resource management
    • communications management
    • system documentation
    • user training
    • escalation of issues
    • business process analysis.

  • Ability to work with individuals at a variety of levels within the organization.
  • Ability to create reports and statistics from various databases using current reporting techniques.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience leading projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading Information Technology projects
  • Experience leading projects in higher education
  • PMI PMP Certification

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Hourly Range 

The hourly range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00 depending on experience.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
