The Bridge Project is a community outreach program of the University of Denvers Graduate School of Social Work that provides educational opportunities for children living in Denvers public housing neighborhoods to facilitate graduation from high school and attend college or learn a trade. The Bridge Project emphasizes education and a holistic view of child development and serves approximately 450 children and youth through afterschool, summer and scholarship programs.
Program activities at the Bridge Project aim to reduce educational barriers and improve academic and behavioral outcomes for children residing in five Denver public housing communities. Program components include structured curricula that seek to increase participants literacy, math and science skills. Academic tutoring, technology training, and social and emotional skill development are also offered to all Bridge Project students.

Position Summary

The site director reports directly to The Bridge Project director of programs and community partnerships. The site director position is responsible for program implementation, facilities management and supervision of the staff team at the assigned site which includes the program assistant, Tech Team members, and assigned interns.

Essential Functions

  • In addition to following the University of Denver policies and procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    Program Development and Implementation - Design and implement program activities to meet the mission, goals and outcomes of the Bridge Project through a whole child approach.
  • Engage professionals from all disciplines as needed for program development.
  • Recruit and retain participants from elementary, middle and high school living in public housing and the surrounding neighborhood to reach target numbers for participation and engagement
  • Maintain the priorities agreed upon in the program while working collaboratively with the team and outside providers to meet all program requirements and program scheduling
  • Develop relationships and build rapport with participants, families, volunteers and community members so that they engage all efforts to support their youth/student
  • Practice Positive Youth Development (PYD) and other interventions including restorative practices, implementation of behavior management plans that target specific behaviors and skills, etc. to support students with challenging behaviors
  • Manage scheduling including, but not limited to interns, volunteers, tech team members and youth development workers
  • Partner with educational specialist to ensure integration of educational programming and social emotional curriculum
  • Participate in the Denver Afterschool Alliance (DAA) initiatives including Youth Program Quality Intervention (YPQI) model
  • Assure data is collected and appropriate evaluation tools are implemented at the site, including the education program
  • Participate in strategic program design efforts including continuous improvement efforts
  • Administration and Management - Site management, data management, program coordination, scheduling of activities, spaces and evaluation.
  • Oversee programming at the Westwood Bridge Project site
  • Supervise the educational specialist, program assistant, youth development workers, and tech team members
  • Support supervision of volunteers and work study students
  • Assume field supervisor role for social work interns assigned to the site
  • Assure that requirements of grants are met, including required service provisions
  • Monitor and keep within annual budget for the site and for specific programs
  • Oversee the maintenance, safety, security and upkeep of the site.
  • Assure the frugal and responsible use of resources while providing adequately for the needs of the program. See to the timely purchase of supplies, etc.
  • Direct and assure compliance of the USDA snack program at the site
  • Supervisory Duties: This position has direct supervision

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and skills working with a wide age range of youth (K-12th)
  • Experience with working with diverse populations (cultural humility)
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Organization skills

Required Qualifications

  • Masters in a social service or related field (sociology, psychology, etc.)
  • 2 years of experience working with youth in the frameworks of social and emotional learning, restorative practices, and/or behavior management
  • 1 year of supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's in social work
  • Experience working in out of school time (OST) settings with youth
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese or Somali

Working Environment

Unexpected interruptions occur frequently, the stress level is moderate to high, and the noise level is moderate to high. Ability to work in a small shared space in a highly active work environment involving up to 50 people including children at the site.

Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
2. Frequently required to move about the site/office with the ability to drive and lift up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule

September through May, Monday - Thursday, 10:00am - 8:00pm. June through August, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm. Evenings and weekends as required.

Salary Range:
Salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
