The University of Denver Hampden Center seeks a knowledgable and enthusiastic project technician. The candidate will process multi-format collections. They will use descriptive taxonomies in the processing and rehousing of retention schedule records. And will further add inventory control to the processed material by using a local organizational schema specific to the Hampden Center. May act as a backup for the daily operations of the Hampden Center in retrieving materials for DU patrons using the organizational schema and Alma. In addition to the basic materials’ management that all members of the Hampden Center perform on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, this position is reserved for those that can use a special combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities.

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

  • Receive and process all incoming records or documents for storage; maintain information regarding records storage retention schedules.
  • Fulfill request orders for records from storage and update inventory information as appropriate.
  • Lead projects and push teams toward time-sensitive goals.
  • Serving as the point of contact for the department as a whole on projects they are directly responsible for leading.
  • Improve service standards through procedural, systematic, and/or interpersonal means.
  • Lead certain areas of our materials’ management assuring quality control and reporting those findings to the Supervisor.
  • Work more directly with other departmental liaisons on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis to develop a unique sense of this department’s role within the Library.
  • Serve as a leader by being responsible for safety, security, arming, and unlocking the Hampden Center, occasionally, without a supervisor on-site.
  • Commit to continuous improvement activities that are process and goal focused. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Processing, rehousing, and entering metadata for retention schedule records.
  • Inventory of processed materials using specific local schema,
  • Shift library materials as needed to build and comply with space planning procedures and maintenance,
  • Participate in inventory and re-labeling projects,
  • Cooperate as a team member with staff to achieve efficient library operation,
  • Become capable of opening and closing procedures in the absence of the manager including but not limited to: Arming and/or disarming the building; Handling retrieval of DU patron and community requests; Assessing workflow needs and prioritizing the day’s activities on the Daily Notes list of projects
  • Perform related work as required or assigned including: Running reports, updates, or making adjustments to records in conjunction with ongoing projects; Tackling lengthy projects such as shifting, data gathering, or other assorted projects that are independent in nature and require little to no supervision.
  • Has excellent communication skills and a willingness to engage on a professional level to assure excellent internal customer service.
  • Recognizes and incorporates the mission and goals of the department, and the Library as a whole, into all aspects of their work.
  • Frequent adjustments to the daily routine based on the priorities of the day.
  • Will train new staff in order to complete the goals of their assigned areas.
  • Will work on team building and measurement of productivity techniques.
  • Will identify at least 1 current process within the overall operations and will lead a project that will lead to sustained, measurable improvement using lean/process improvement methodologies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • In addition to the basics that all members of the Hampden Center perform on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, this position is reserved for those members of staff that:
    • Have previous information, records or materials’ processing experience.
    • Have the ability to work independently.
    • Have a valid driver’s license and at least 21 years of age and must be willing and able to operate a University vehicle and an aerial lift (after on-site training).
    • Able to work in both a typical office environment and a warehouse environment.
    • Ability to lift boxes up to 25-50 pounds, stand, bend, kneel, push, pull, and use ladders to perform the work. 

Required Qualifications

  • If 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license, pass the defensive driving course, and must be willing and able to operate a University vehicle and an aerial lift (after on-site training). Those under 21 will not transport materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED

Work schedule

Monday-Friday, Part-Time. Some weekends required.
