This is a specific posting that will serve to elect a single adjunct faculty for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Position Summary

The Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management at Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver seeks an industry professional chef to serve as adjunct faculty for the 2025-2026 academic year. The individual hired into this position will co-teach our Contemporary Cuisine (pop-up restaurant) course alongside a member of the Fritz Faculty. The course is tentatively scheduled to run Tuesday & Thursday from 2-4pm for ten weeks in each of the three academic quarters in the Joy Burns Center on the University of Denver campus. Each quarter the  class opens three restaurants for one night each; two are multi-course wine and food pairing dinners and the third is an a la carte restaurant. Both instructors work/teach during the three dinners. There is also the opportunity for someone certified to teach a quarterly-offered Servsafe ® food protection manager certification as part of our introductory restaurant management course.

Industry professionals are compensated at a rate of $1265.00 per credit hour and will teach Contemporary Cuisine, a four-credit course over three academic quarters (Fall, Winter, Spring), in addition to 1 credit for a [quarterly Servesafe® course

Essential Functions

Industry professional instructors are required to teach twice a week (in addition to class events on non-class days, plus ServeSafe® classes), hold office hours, assign papers and exams as appropriate and be available to assist students with assignments. The University operates on a quarter system.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in culinary arts, hospitality management or related field with a minimum of 5 years of professional culinary experience including food service operations such as kitchen management, inventory control, or catering, OR
  • 7+ years managing a food service operation including kitchen management, inventory control, or catering.
  • Two years of experience as a sous chef in a restaurant, hotel or catering operation.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching/training culinary arts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Certified as a Servesafe® Food Manager Instructor and Proctor
  • Two years of experience as an executive chef in a restaurant, hotel or catering operation.

Work Schedule

While the University’s administrative offices are open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The Contemporary Cuisine course runs Tuesday/Thursday from 2-3:50 PM but the instructors need to be available/present during prep for the three dinners each academic quarter.

Course Rate

The course rate for this position is $1265.00 per credit hour taught for a total of $5,060 for the academic quarter. Servsafe food manager certification teaching earns an additional $1,265 per quarter taught.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
