The Learning Effectiveness Program (LEP) at the University of Denver was founded in 1982 and is an internationally recognized program for neurodiverse learners. LEP is a fee for service program offering access to supports for neurodiverse learners with Specific Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), students on the Autism Spectrum, and/or students who have a history of learning differences.

Our Mission is two-fold:
*Provide support and services to the DU neurodivergent and learning different student.
*Provide support to the DU community in providing accessible resources and instruction for the neurodivergent and learning different students

Position Summary

The Associate Director is responsible for leading the Learning Effectiveness Program (LEP) in partnership with the Director, including Strategic Planning, Visioning, and Assessment. The Associate Director oversees and supervises the program staff and services in LEP including Project Eye to Eye, Choose your Own ADDventure Conference, First LEP Total Experience (FLYTE), Executive Functioning, Research, Social Skill Building, Student Organizations and Peer Leadership. The Associate Director, in collaboration with the Director, provides professional development to campus, divisional, and departmental staff and faculty. The Associate Director oversees the LEP program team, workflows, publications, policies, research, and crisis management, for the LEP. This is a full-time position and reports to the Director of LEP. The Associate Director demonstrates an ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) through participation and leadership in DEI trainings and initiatives and Universal Design for Learning.

Essential Functions

Departmental Leadership and Management:

  • Work with the Director in areas of strategic visioning, implementation, and assessment; in the absence of the Director, provide staff supervision and departmental administration.
  • Manages day-to-day operations of the department.
  • Oversee workflows, publications, policies, crisis management, for LEP.
  • Assist the Director with departmental, divisional, and university-wide faculty and staff training.
  • Support students and parents/families in navigating challenging situations and connecting to the appropriate resources.
  • Train, Supervise, and evaluate LEP programming staff.
  • Lead collaborative efforts with internal and external research projects.
  • Develop grant and foundation-based funding opportunities in collaboration with University Advancement.

Education and Training

  • Coordinate, with the LEP administration team, on-going professional development within the department.
  • Provide training and education to campus and divisional partners on how to create inclusive environments for students with learning disabilities, ADHD, and a history of learning differences and in context of intersectional identities and DEI initiatives.
  • Streamline and train on policies, procedures, and processes for LEP programs and services.
  • Develop training with professionals on campus and in the community on how to support students in navigating challenging situations and to make appropriate referrals.

Program Management and Academic Counseling

  • Oversee, manage, supervise, and assess the programming, services, and assessment of LEP, including FLYTE, Eye to Eye, Social Skill Building, Peer Mentoring, etc.
  • Support academic counselors with their caseloads by evaluating their effectiveness and coaching them on strategies and techniques to use with their students.
  • Provide academic support to students in the absence of their academic counselor.
  • Manage parent communications and challenging situations

Administrative Duties

  • Coordinate the annual assessment and report writing in collaboration with the LEP administration team.
  • Contribute to monitoring and development of budgets and operational costs.
  • Maintains accurate notes in Inspire on student, family communication, faculty, and staff communication.
  • Assist with development and updating policies, procedures, counselor handbook, parent/family handbook and website.

Special Projects and Other Duties as Assigned

  • Participate in LEP staff functions.
  • Work with director to provide information or reports requested by the division or university.
  • Represents the department on various campus, division, and departmental committees including the area leadership team, special projects and committees as determined in consultation with the Director of LEP.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of learning strategies and information processing as it relates to students with learning differences.
  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of disabilities.
  • Knowledge and skills of effective and supportive supervision.
  • Excellent verbal communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of trends and research related to learning disabilities and best practices in instruction and academic support.
  • Demonstrated experience with programming specific to Neurodiverse students and students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through work experience and professional development.
  • Demonstrated experience working with parents and families.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with a neurodivergent student population

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Counseling, or related field
  • 3 years of related professional experience working in an educational setting.
  • 2 years of supervision experience with professional staff.
  • Experience with program administration.
  • Experience counseling, teaching, and/or coaching students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Leadership Experience.
  • Experience working directly with students in higher education.
  • Experience in project management and implementation of new initiatives.
  • Experience with Student Management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with leadership and organizational management.
  • Understanding of Education and Psychological testing reports.
  • Experience with crisis management.
  • Experience with strategic planning and program development.
  • Experience leading training and workshops.
  • Experience with research projects.

Working Environment

1. Standard office environment.
2. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Some nights, weekends, and holiday.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 10.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $62,000-$72,000

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting.
