Position Summary

This position facilitates effective youth hockey instruction by providing fun and safe youth competitions, camps & clinics as part of the Jr. Pioneer Youth Hockey program.  In addition to supporting overall competitions/games for the JPH teams, this position will take direct responsibility in running and administering the 5 JPH Youth Hockey tournaments that are hosted on campus, the Spring 3 v 3 league and the June thru August summer camps & clinics.  In addition to ensuring all events are run to the standard of excellence expected by Jr. Pioneers Hockey, ensuring a positive experience and maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for all is paramount.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working with the sport of hockey, enjoy sports and physical activity, have a strong outgoing personality, excellent communication skills, and enjoy a collaborative, dynamic work environment.  Jr. Pioneers Hockey staff report to the program manager and assist with program setup, participant management, and overall development of Youth Hockey at the University of Denver, while providing friendly, responsive support to children and parents.

This is a non-benefited, part-time position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year. 

Essential Functions

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the 5 youth hockey tournaments JPH hosts each calendar year.
  • Support and assist in administration of the Spring 3 v 3 Hockey league & the summer camps & clinics that run from June thru August.
  • Assist with all aspects associated with tryouts for all divisions 8U, Rec & Competitive -10 U, 12U & 14U – August & September
  • Engage and interact positively with JPH participants and families, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all JPH families and visitors that attend JPH sponsored events on campus
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by following program policies and procedures.
  • Recognize and respond effectively and efficiently to emergencies
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and training sessions
  • Communicate effectively with program supervisors, participants, and parents.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification, or willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification. 
  • Experience working as a hockey administrator and/or coach
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Punctual and reliable – able to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays & the 5 scheduled tournaments hosted by JPH.
  • Minimum of 18 years old
  • Fingerprint based background check
  • Additional background checks and training as required by Colorado childcare licensing (paid for by the University of Denver)

Work Schedule

 15-20 hours per week/average, typically 3 days a week, 5 hours per day. Full days during the pre-determined tournament schedule and on some Spring hockey days.

  • JPH Tournament Schedule (5 weekends – one each in October, December, January, February & March)
    • Full Day work, as needed to prepare in the days leading up to the tournament, with full days for the days the tournament is taking place
  • Spring 3 v 3 League (2 nights during week & Saturday/Sunday 1/2 days April thru mid-May)
  • Camps & Clinics (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 3 hours per night – June, July & August)

Hourly Range

The hourly range for this position is $23.00-$27.00.
