The Daniels College of Business (DCB), one of the largest colleges within the University of Denver, is home to approximately 1,600 undergraduate and 650 graduate students, 120 faculty, and 100 staff.  It offers a variety of graduate degree programs  including a full-time Master of Business Administration (Denver MBA); Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA); a part-time Professional Master of Business Administration (PMBA); an online Master of Business Administration (MBA@Denver); and Masters of Science degrees in Accountancy, Management, Applied Quantitative Finance, Business Analytics, Real Estate and the Built Environment, and Marketing  as well as non-degree Executive Education and professional development programs. DCB currently enrolls undergraduate students in nine majors: Accountancy, Business Analytics, Finance, General Business, Hospitality Management, International Business, Management, Marketing, and Real Estate and the Built Environment.

With a two-pronged focus on career coaching (for both graduate and undergraduate students) and employer relations, Daniels Career Services operates under a College-wide cross-functional support model in collaboration and alignment with Graduate Student Services, Office of Graduate Admissions, Office of Communications and Marketing, Executive Education, Experiential Education and External Relations.

Position Summary

The Assistant Professor of the Practice will have responsibility for teaching and service. We are open to applicants with a variety of perspectives and teaching interests. We have a preference for candidates interested in taxation, managerial accounting, or accounting information systems.

The Assistant Professor of the Practice will be expected to teach courses during the academic year, which may include fall, winter, and/or spring quarters. Teaching responsibilities include both undergraduate and graduate level courses using traditional, hybrid, and online delivery methods. Teaching responsibilities may involve day, night, and weekend classes. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website. The Assistant Professor of the Practice is expected to participate in the academic life of the School of Accountancy and the Daniels College of Business.

Essential Functions

Teaching: The Assistant Professor of the Practice will be expected to teach eight courses throughout the academic year, which may include fall, winter, and spring quarters. DU follows the quarter system, with three, 10-week long academic terms in fall (early September-late November), winter (January-mid March), and spring (late March-first week of June). There may also be opportunities to teach during the nine-week summer quarter.

Service: The Assistant Professor of the Practice will be expected to participate in the academic life of the School of Accountancy and the Daniels College of Business. This includes but it is not limited to attendance at faculty meetings and participation in assurance of learning and curriculum development. Significant involvement with students is expected of all faculty members. A primary function of faculty members in the Professor of the Practice Series is to provide students with connections to the professional fields the students will be entering.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field with 10 or more years of executive experience.
  • Demonstrated potential for strong performance in teaching and service as defined under Essential Functions.
  • Expertise, achievements, and reputations developed over a sustained period of time that qualify them to be distinguished professionals in an area of practice.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with diverse communities or evidence of a commitment to incorporate inclusive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations.
  • Strong English communication skills (written and oral).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience in taxation, managerial accounting, or accounting information systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging diverse populations and students with different learning styles.
  • Experience teaching at an AACSB accredited institution with excellent teaching evaluations.
  • Experience learning and teaching others to use new technology.
  • CPA or other professional designation.
  • Master of Taxation or terminal degree (DBA, Ph.D.) in accounting or a closely related field from an AACSB or EQUIS accredited institution.

Work Schedule

While the University's administrative offices are open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $110,000- $120,000.

The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
