Department Summary
The Housing and Residential Education staff at the University of Denver provides housing and support services for 2,800 students living within University housing. Housing and Residential Education strives for a community that supports academic achievement and success, personal growth and development, a respectful and inclusive environment which promotes diversity, promotes community service, and fosters leadership development and an engaged staff and student.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Residential Education, the Incident Response Coordinator is a live-on position responsible for overseeing the on-call response to campus incidents, providing supervision and guidance to staff during on-call shifts, daily monitoring of incident reports and following up on incidents, reviewing and updating response protocols, and ensuring staff and student well-being. This position collaterally serves as a Student Support Advisor with Student Outreach and Support and Case Administrator with Student Rights and Responsibilities. The Incident Response Coordinator directly supervises 20-25 Community Assistants (student staff positions). This position involves collaborating with campus partners, addressing incidents in a timely and effective manner, and promoting a safe and supportive campus environment.
Essential Functions
On-Call Oversight
- Oversee the on-campus, residential, incident response system, ensuring on-call staff are prepared and properly equipped to handle emergencies or situations requiring immediate attention.
- Supervise and support 20-25 on-call staff, providing guidance and assistance.
- Ensure effective coordination with other campus departments (e.g., Campus Safety, Health & Counseling Center, Facilities Management, Student Rights & Responsibilities, Student Outreach & Support, etc.) in response to incidents.
- Coordinate on-call coverage for fall, winter, spring, and summer quarters for student and professional staff.
Incidents, Wellness, and Well-Being
- Conduct timely reviews of incident reports, follow-ups on incidents, ensuring appropriate documentation, resolution, and reporting, including escalation to senior leadership when appropriate.
- Serve in an administrator-on-call rotation, responding to incidents and potential policy violations.
- Investigate and assess the effectiveness of responses to incidents and recommend improvements to procedures.
- Liaise with students, staff, and other stakeholders to ensure appropriate support is provided after incidents.
- Serve as a conflict mediator.
- Serve as a Case Administrator with Student Rights and Responsibilities (SRR), including break periods.
- Serve as a Student Support Advisor with Student Outreach and Support, including break periods.
- Participate on the CARE team.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of incidents, responses, follow- ups, and any actions taken.
- Provide regular reports on incident trends, response effectiveness, and recommendations for changes to leadership.
- Perform regular wellness and well-being check-ins with students and with on-call staff to ensure their mental and physical health, offering support and resources as needed.
- Ensure that staff have access to necessary debriefing and mental health resources after particularly challenging or traumatic incidents.
Policy and Procedure
- Regularly review, update, and enhance incident response protocols to ensure alignment with best practices, effectiveness, and safety.
- Develop and implement new policies and response protocols to address evolving needs, ensuring clarity and consistency.
Training and Development
- Assist with development of training & logistics, including in-services.
- Provide training to staff on incident response protocols, wellness strategies, and best practices for maintaining a safe campus.
- Lead debriefing sessions with staff to discuss incidents and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director for Recruitment & Development in creating and facilitating relevant training and development for Community Assistants.
Departmental
- Assist in the departmental training of professional and student staff
- Develop working relationships with key campus partners, including but not limited to: Department of Campus Safety, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Office of the Vice Chancellor, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Student Outreach and Support, Health and Counseling Center, and other University-related services
- Attend events and programs sponsored by the department and/or the Division of Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence, including those that periodically occur on weekends and evenings
- Other duties as assigned

- Capacity for managing multiple tasks simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
- Sensitivity to student and staff well-being and mental health considerations.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree, with one (1) year of crisis, emergency response, or on-call experience.
- One (1) year of supervisory experience, management or elevated leadership/volunteer experience.
- Strong knowledge of incident response protocols, safety procedures, and crisis management techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or certification in Social Work, Emergency Management, Human Services, Psychology, or a related social science field or two-three years of experience in incident management, crisis response, or related fields, preferably in a college or university setting.
- Bachelors degree in Social Work, Emergency Management, Psychology, or a related social science field.
- 2+ years of supervisory or management experience
- 2+ years of experience in incident management, crisis response, or related fields, preferably in a college or university setting.
Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
- Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., some nights and weekends.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is 6.
Hourly Range
The hourly range for the position is $22.00 - $24.00.
