Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Business Operations will assist in administering functions directly associated with the fiscal operations of the Division ensuring compliance with all NCAA, Division and University policies/procedures.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following: Financial operations: contracts, procurement, invoices, requisition/POs, vendor management, cash/check/ACH deposits, year-end close; Team travel: support travel operations, assist Anthony Travel representative, reconcile of expenses; Equipment: budget, inventory management, vendor support/management; Policy: assist with writing divisional policies and procedures; Assist with the creation of training materials/guides for divisional colleagues and coaching staff to help navigate financial systems; Audit: NCAA, University, ad hoc; Assistant Director of Business Operations will also demonstrate an on-going commitment to the principles of multiculturalism and diversity through hiring practices, training and development programming, campus collaborations, or involvement and participation in university/divisional multiculturalism and diversity projects of initiatives. 

Essential Functions

Financial Operations

  • Assist the Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Business Operations and Deputy Athletic Director for Strategy/CFO with financial operations of Division’s sport portfolio and administrative units.
  • Contracts
    • Administer all contracts through the workflow process
    • Assist in obtaining the required documentation for contractual approval
    • Educate and assist divisional colleagues in navigating the process with Legal/Purchasing/UFS
    • Develop a tracking system to notify relevant stakeholders about fulfilling contracts, expiration dates, etc.
  • Invoices/Requisitions/Purchase Orders
    • Assist with paying invoices and creating requisitions and purchase orders for the Division including travel, equipment, outside services, independent contractors, etc. 
    • Assist business office colleagues with the three annual projections based on knowledge of invoice payments and contractual agreements
  • Register, troubleshoot, and maintain Division vendor listing. Communicate with vendors and University Financials Services to ensure accurate and efficiency of the process.
  • Perform cash and check deposits and claim ACH wires for the Division
  • Assist in the year-end close process, including paying and closing all purchase orders/invoices
  • Assist in the annual zero-based budgeting process; provide insights through revenue and expense data, contracts, etc.

Sport Operations

  • Assist the Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Business Operations in managing all aspects of team travel financial operations, including oversight of onsite Athony Travel representative and flight, hotel, and meal contracting.
  • Reconcile all team travel accurately and efficiency; provide data and insights regarding travel expense detail and booking for use in department forecasting and University projections
  • Assist the development of annual travel budgets and schedules; provide suggestions and solutions rooted in historical data and industry benchmarking
  • Work with equipment room to effectively manage sport equipment budgets, maintain an accurate inventory, and maintain strong working relationships equipment provider.

Operational Efficiency

  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and improvement of policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the creation of training and education materials for various financial processes
  • Assist in the annual NCAA/EDAA audit regarding providing documentation to auditors

Other Functions

  • Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior about adherence to NCAA, Conference, University, and the Division of Athletics rules and regulations
  • Proactively uphold the outstanding working relationships within the Division and the University
  • Assuming other duties as assigned by Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Business Operations, Deputy Athletic Director for Strategy/CFO, and Vice Chancellor of Athletics & Ritchie Center Operations

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • 2 years of business experience

Work Schedule
Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. Some weekends and special events times also.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 10.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $60,000-$70,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
